The Communist Cap - dragging down success and aspiration to the levels of those who cba.: |
|
| 1. Do we have a "Plan B"? Even a slight variation of "Plan A" might be useful. You do realise that most of the top teams have worked out our one move don't you?
2. You do realise that we won the CC on the back of the easiest route in a long time? It was not on account of our superior tactics so we can't rely on our record of rising to the "Big Game". I dread to think what the result would have been had we played Warrington.
3. Why do you insist on picking the same half backs? They are garbage. Surely putting a youngster in there would not be a "risk", more an enforced choice?
4. Why oh why do we not have a back on the bench? All it takes is one injury and our entire back threat is nullified. At Wembley we were lucky in that it happend with 15 mins to go, last night, not so. Do you honestly think that putting Liam Farrell in a back line is acceptable or beneficial? Absolute madness.
5. Can you explain why you are "not too concerned about our form" when a team that was as good as you could have picked, clearly giving 100% were very very ordinary last night? What do you think is going to change in 7 days?
I like Wane as a person, I like the way he can seemingly galvanise a team, I really hope he can be a success, but I do worry about some of his tactics.

You are a brave man pointing out the obvious regarding the CC as for some the fact we won it will have surely proved Wane is a top class coach. Don't get me wrong I thoroughly enjoyed the day and the victory and don't care one iota if so called neutral fans think it was a poor game. I found it exciting and any CC win is something to celebrate. Cup competitions give easy routes to finals sometimes and we have had our fair share of doing it the hard way in the past so I will take it thank you very much but the win does give a false impression of Wane's ability as a coach IMO.
I agree with most of what else you say and have been saying as much for a while now. As to the half backs I think Smith is on a hiding to nothing and isn't garbage. He has to do the job of two players.
As to point 5 something has to change but the question is has Wane got even a slightest clue as to what?
The evidence of the last couple of months say's not so next week v Hudds will show us if he has his head in the sand or a willingness to recognise and at least attempt to deal with the problems which IMO centre around the attack.
Green needs to be dropped and Hampshire brought in. We can afford to lose next week so this is a no-risk strategy to try this to see if it gives the team options we currently do not have when Plan A is inevitably nullified.

| The challenge cup. Lets be honest we had an easy cup run. And played Hull who had a terrible game. Same problems existed within the final as they have all season, did you see Sam linking out wide? No. Attack nulled by arching on the edge.
Fantastic to win the trophy, but there is an element of how it papered over the cracks.

| One of the best things about mcguire was if players wernt playing well they got dropped so players knew they had to constantly perform or they were out for a few weeks not sure the players still feel that

| I don't post on here often but i do read the threads. There are a lot of people on here who 3 months ago thought Wigan were head and shoulders the best attacking team in SL and that Green & Smith were the best half back pairing. Smith was rightly given the Lance Todd Trophy a few weeks ago and clearly isn't a bad player. Greens form has not been as good since his injury but I thought he was one of our better performers last night. He tried hard, took on the line and was creative.
We need to improve a lot to be competitive in the play offs but we can't dump the dip in form on the shoulders of the halves. Leeds were just better last night.
Wane has to say he isn't concerned about the form. He knows we're better. Would u rather he said something like 'Im worried sick about our form, we're not playing well & I don't know how to fix it'?

Not sure you're right. MM was accused of picking the same team all season in 2011 and not bringing anyone through. When you were out (Pryce, Phelps) you didn't come back.

I'm also not sure about this bagging of Green.
He created Wigans try, kicked a 40:20 (well the fef said he did ) put Thorney through and we should have scored. Then he put that kick for Pat up the wing.
On the minus side he threw the interception pass, and there was the poor kick just after Ptas break.
I've posted this AFTER watching the game again.
A couple of things that haven't been mentioned, the collision between Hansen and Goulding cost Wigan two substitutions and was a factor later in the match. Also for Leeds second try Scott Taylor was down in back play leaving Wigan a man short in the defensive line. Fair play to Leeds they exploited that space and were well worthy of their win.

Did they mention anything about Goulding? Is he ok?

Yesterday Green had a good game by his standards. He still cost us a try and found the fullback with unerring accuracy. He's awful, fat, small... shocking to think we bought him out of his contract.
Please for the love of god change things up next week Wane; Green out, Sam Tomkins in at stand-off, Hampshire at the back, hell stick big Tony G in- he causes problems.
While I'm at it, I'd love to see Matt Smith go in at hooker when Mickey gets knackered. We lose so much physicallity when Mcillorum goes off, Matty's one of our strongest tacklers and would provide a threat unlike Logan.
It's a strange feeling now the league season's over. We'd have all taken the CC at the start but the inability to replace Carmont or the halves has cost us dearly. You can all point to us being in a strong position with one trophy and a (slim, anoxeric slim) chance of the GF but the rugby has gone crap. All we had to show for last year was the hub cap but I was excited to watch some chuffing brilliant rugby, always dreaded going to Warrington but I should be excited when Huddersfield and Leeds come to town.

I agree with 100% of this post. I hadn't thought of Matty Smith to hooker but what a good call.

You mean not select Logan? But his surname is Tomkins, of course he'll be picked! Nothing to do with the fact he's the worst player in the team... His pass out on the right hand side following Thornley's break, which went over the head of everybody and stopped any attack on their line.... absolutely shocking, just a player who isn't good enough to wear a Wigan jersey and another reason why we won't go anywhere come playoff time. We have to 'hang on and hope they dont score' when Mickey goes off, that's no way to be a successful team.

| Where do our forwards come in this? I didn't see the game but when we play badly, it's normally because our forwards have been dominated. IMO our pack blows hot and cold far too often - they're not physical or intense enough in the tackle...

The pack is too young, especially the front rowers. Stick with them though and they will develop.

Our pack did get dominated: Peacock was outstanding, as always, but we even made JJB look good. To be fair, though, Hansen's injury and Faz having to move to centre didn't help.
