 Moved Upstairs Ganson Hangs Up His WhistleAfter eighteen years at the pinnacle of his trade, Steve Ganson has announced his immediate retirement from refereeing to step into the role of 'Match Officials Coach and Technical Director', vacated by Stuart Cummings departure earlier in the season.
Many supporters will breath a sigh of relief as the St. Helens based official takes up a managerial position and vanishes from our pitches and screens, but he will undoubtedly leave a void within the refereeing fraternity which will be difficult to fill.

a frustrating ref who veered between being an excellent ref who want afraid to make big decisions, to one who was only happy when HE was the centre of attention.
i'm sure he will do a better job than cummings.

Not easy to say but he was one of the better refs. Although he liked the limelight too much he wasn't afraid of making big decisions. It did make me laugh though when our crowd would sing "We want Ganson" when other refs dropped clangers against us. the only place I wanted Ganson was dangling on the end of a rope. Ha!Ha!

Bad ref, gave too many penalties and too many cards........... lowers the intensity of games.........
This is one of the reasons the NRL is better than the Super League, the quality of refs is way higher!
