| Enough movement, but any time the ball moved past first receiver, every single player seemed to have exactly the same compass heading. Nothing wrong with the line per-se but if every player is going the same way, a good sliding defence like Hudds had today can eat it up all day long. Its no coincidence that we ran into trouble with the touchline so many times, including of course for their last try. We might get away with it when one of the runners is Tomkins threatening to come into the line at some point, which tends to cause hesitation in defence, but today Hudds just slid across and snuffed everything out. Only needs one player to run a different angle - would have made all the difference.

| A big issue I saw with us today was the lack of a modern day 1 like Tomkins or Hodgson who keep the ball moving to the outside like an extra half whilst offering that running threat. I thought Charnley had a go but everytime the ball went to him our play stopped dead as he constantly came back on the inside. I really do feel we'd have got over the line with Tomkins in the side but you can't have everything.
I thought it was a good effort overall to say how disrupted we were during the game.

I'm always a bit wary of commenting from live memory because its easy to get hung up on a couple of incidents and convince myself it was happening on every play, but I'd agree, except to clarify (what I think you mean too) that Charnley seemed to come back on the inside *after* taking the pass. It needed a runner or two to offer that inside line prior to the ball going to or missing them. And actually, not Charnley - you want the fast guys on the end of the ball that finds the outside line.

| In the second half there were none whatsoever. No structure to the attack at all. Everyone was stood flat and took the ball stood still. I think Paddy got one pass and that was when he came inside into the SR position.
You have to give HUGE credit to Huddersfield for surviving that onslaught at the end (a man in the bin perhaps for the persistent penalties) but we didn't ask them any questions whatsoever.

| FWIW I thing the Giants did something today that they utterly failed to even be able to do last season - and that's change their defensive structure mid game
You had cut us open with the inevitable "box" formation that is usually executed flawlessly and we changed our defence to match, combined with our wingers (who had nothing to do last week v London) made some absolutely outstanding ball and all tackles to kill your ball movement - they miss those tackles and you're scoring every time

Saints have had the same problem in the last 4 years with Wellens at full back. The attack just stops dead!

I totally agree. Charnley stopped our attack time and time again and on another day, with a different full back, I think we would have won quite easily. With the way that we play and the way our moves are structured you certainly cant have a full back who wont/cant pass. It was certainly Wellens like from Charnley yesterday. with pace obviously , in the way our attack was stifled, and things were that bad he was pushed on to Richards' wing with Richards going to full back.

| Just seen the "highlights", and it all looked a little static and disorganized, but still early days for Blake and Green who need to take control, and i'm sure will. The tackle on Gelling was a real ouchie!!
