On loan for the year. Wow.'"
Wow indeed. Playing the fringe players more in the friendlies is starting to seem a lot more worthwhile.

| IL is livid by the sounds of things. I think he feels as if Gaz has given a massive f-you to the club after standing by him during his ban.

| If he's refused to play for the club, then what an absolute w&nker he is after all the club has done for him.
I'm both disappointed and angry at the entire situation. After going through a 10 year rebuilding it seems the players are doing their best to force us back into another one.

| This stinks of a massive fall out with Wane, if true what i am told (yes that old chestnut again!) then Hock is blameless in all this and Mr Wane has a lot to answer for

| Who's to say Hock is to blame this time?
People jumping to conclusions due to Hock's past. Maybe this time, it isn't his fault....

| I don't know for sure the whole truth, but I have heard things where Hock isn't in the wrong. However, I also have heard the things Leneghan mentions in his statement and good on him for making this decision IMO.
The club have stood by him for years to turn his life around, and I would like him to play against us, just to make the Wigan v Widnes games more tasty.

| I'm certainly going to boo him if he plays for Widnes against us haha!
Is there any mention that he is allowed to play against us?
Gareth Hock on his day is devastating and on the field this is a big loss for us. Widnes have got themselves a world class player, just hope he doesn't let them down as he did with us.

Wigan are saying it.
It isn't his fault? Refusing to attend training. Committing breaches of conduct, hoping the club will sack him - so he can get a free transfer.
You're right. He's done nothing wrong.
The club could be lying of course. In which case, Hock and his agent will no doubt sue IL for libel and the truth will come out in court.

There is, can't play against us in any competition.

Sorry, no. I lay the blame at Hock's feet. After we stood by him during his ban for him then to ask for a move to Australia followed by making it clear he doesn't want to play for Wigan again is a huge kick in the teeth. It's a massive signing for Widnes, who should do a lot better than they did last season.
If Hock was putting the work in in training, what reason would Wane have to have any beef with him? It looked as though we'd welcomed him back with open arms after his ban, but that seems to now have been lost on him.
Sad to lose him, but if his attitude stunk then good riddence.

| What an absolute prick. If what Mr. Lenegan is saying is true, and I have every reason to believe it is, then Gareth Hock is a scumbag of the highest order. After Wigan stuck by him through his drug ban, gave him his job back and everything that went along with that. Gareth Hock is not fit to wear the Cherry and White jersey.
I hope they allow him to play against us, just so we can watch our forwards smash him.

""Gareth Hock has made it clear in face-to-face discussions with me and via his agent that he has no intention of playing for the Wigan Club. This is hugely disappointing to me, to the Wigan fans and to the Club who have all treated him well.
"We have gone to unique lengths to help him get his life back on track after his ban two years ago including increasing his Contract voluntarily on two separate occasions to help him financially against a backdrop of his threats to leave. The Wigan Club has consistently supported the player and has done all that any Club could be asked to do.
"We acceded to his recent request for a move to Australia on the basis that a change of environment and a different competition might be good socially for him, provided it was also financially beneficial to Wigan. However, this did not transpire. Even though better offers have been now received, he has made it clear he does not now wish to move to Australia and will not play for Wigan.
"A line has to be drawn at some stage and whilst with immense regret at losing a player of Gareth's quality, who I believe is still a Wiganer at heart, we have concluded that that time is now for the good of the 2013 Wigan Squad, the Coaching Staff and for the Wigan fans.
"Since I and Wigan are not prepared to allow Gareth Hock to play for one of our major competitors, we have decided to retain his Registration and to allow him to move on loan to Widnes Super League Club with whom we have an excellent relationship. He is not allowed to play against Wigan in any competitions.
"In terms of rationale, it is known that Gareth was upset that Shaun Wane took away his number 12 Squad Number - hardly surprising in the light of his expected departure to Australia - but we were expecting him to concentrate on his injury rehabilitation and to fight for his place in the Team.
"Having stood by Gareth Hock, we feel let down by his attitude under both Michael Maguire and Shaun Wane since returning to play for Wigan.
"I have instructed Wigan staff to now leave this issue behind, concentrate upon the coming season and make no further comment."'"
