| Greetings Warriors fans. I hear a sizeable number of you will be coming to the LSV on Sunday. 'The Centurion' is the matchday magazine of Leigh Centurions, and here is a taster of what is in this week's edition. All the correspondents volunteer their services free of charge, but we believe this does not detract from the quality of the publication - I hope we can tempt you to buy one!
The first 2013 edition of ‘The Centurion’ is available for this Sunday’s pre-season game with Wigan. Although this edition is restricted to just 24 pages, it is packed with features and information – with no adverts. Our publisher has once again worked his magic, in giving the programme a new look – I hope you like it.
A couple of new correspondents will be making their debutsMIKE HULME, makes a welcome return to the magazine. Mike has a wealth of experience and knowledge, of the world of Rugby League, and his views always make fascinating reading. This week, he makes a case for being a little bit more adventurous, in locating the World Club Challenge.
For the past three seasons, the players’ viewpoint has been eloquently stated by ‘prima donna’ half backs, but we have now enlisted skipper ROB PARKER to give his view from the dressing room. This week, Rob restricts himself to talking about pre-season, and ‘dual contracts’, but I have a distinct feeling that he’s itching to have some fun at the expense of his team-mates! Rob will be interviewed for each edition, by NATHAN LAWRENSON, the guy who braved flying water bottles, and other missiles, to interview opposing coaches last year. We felt it would be safer for him to interview ‘one of our own’, this time around!
CEO TREVOR BARTON welcomes our illustrious visitors and dignitaries on Sunday.
Head Coach PAUL ROWLEY looks forward to putting training plans into action on the pitch, and talks about some of his acquisitions. He likens himself to a legendary American football coach!
DAVE PARKINSON presents pen pictures of our five new signings, three of whom have amassed over 550 Super League appearances!
MAURICE JONES has provided the squad photos for 2013 and will be snapping the action this coming season. Unfortunately, the Salford game postponement means there are few current action photos this time round, but I thought it would be a fitting gesture to include a page of the late WAYNE KEEGAN’s photos of last year’s encounter with Wigan, as a tribute to him. He will be missed.
Love RL correspondent, TONY WILLIAMS, tries his best to dispel some of the gloom surrounding the Sport and, as a Widnes fan, predicts potential success for Leigh in 2013!
.
JOHN WILLIAMS writes of changes in the organisation of the Junior Centurions.
ALAN EDGE pays tribute to the Leythers who have passed away, provides an in-depth view of our visitors, points his flat cap at Salford, and Sport England, and congratulates our award winners. (including one ‘pie-eater’) He also resurrects the controversial question, “Does size matter?” in addition to filling in on the Commercial news.
News from two of the commercially most successful departments of the club is provided by CHRISTINE BROWN (Lottery) and LYNDA PIKE. (LISA)
Once again, there is the usual squad and fixture information and we have again ‘frozen’ prices at just £2.50.
During the season ‘proper’, we hope to introduce more new features and it is hoped to make the magazine available at our town centre retail outlet, at least a day before each home game.
