Monitoring outside for the people inside: |
|
| Can anyone give details of a walk up or around Billinge Hill. Ideally a circular one, about 1.5 to 2 hours. Parking spot, directions, any nice pubs on route etc.

Some Salford fan said to me and I quote "You are by far and away the most Handsome & Knowledgeable Rugby League Fan in England!"
I thanked him and went on my Merry way!

Rogues will be your best man for that answer.
If you let him know when your going hell come with you and you can chat all things rugby.
He may even let you know why Bridge should have been sent off?

Along Rainford Road about half a mile from the mini roundabout in Billinge there is a road on your right, it's a small road that leads up to what was Crookhurst Farm. Just Park at the bottom of that Road (closest to Rainford Road)
Then walk up the small road towards the farmhouse. At the farmhouse go left and just follow the road up to Billinge Hill, some great views on your left hand side. When you reach the top of the path go right and 200 yards later go left up to the Hill itself. If it's a clear day the views are stunning. You can see as far South as Wales, North up to Blackpool, East to Manchester and Derbyshire, and West to Liverpool and and the Wirral.
From the Hill I would walk though the woods and that will eventually bring you out on Crank Road. When you get there turn right and you will come to The Holt Arms www.qualitypubs.co.uk/holtsarms/ better known as The Foot, which does good food.
After being suitably fed and watered turn right and go back up Crank Road. Just keep going for a couple of miles and about half a mile past Houghwood Golf Club on your left there is a path. Take that path and it will eventually lead to Red Barn Road. Follow that road and it will lead to Rainford Road and you car should be about 400 yards on the left.
Enjoy

| or come out of the holts arms, turn left, then right onto upholland road and an excellent ale pub 1/2 mile down there called the hare and hounds run by ex wigan player nick du toit, with some bits of rl memorabilia up on the walls.

| Nick quit the pub about 2 weeks back, but it is well worth a visit. The cheapest ale in the district, £2.30 all across the board for top quality REAL ale, not that rubbish that comes in a tanker, like petrol. There's Wainwrights bitter as the house ale,(reccomended) and always either Black Sheep, Bombadier, Silver Tally or many other top class ales, always at least three on sale.
If you make it to this real ale oasis after following the directions of both Rogues and the additional info from PK you can get a bus right outside, (every 15 minutes) and it'll drop you about 250 yards from the car.
It could be worth a visit as the patronage is about evenly split, Wigan and Saints supporters, a Wire supporter might just add a bit of objectivity to the usual banter.

| There's also the Colliers on 't other side ot hill, in Kings Moss.
Another cracking Real Ale pub, which is well worth a visit.
However, due to the location, it's much more biased towards the stains contingent
