| Just been reading through some of the other threads and it seems alot of people do not rate smith at all and think he had been a terrible signing. But watching him play, especially at 9 against catalan he looks like he could be one of the best in superleague, a great utility player and never seemed to make a mistake or take someones head off and get banned. As far as green i havnt really seen him play but the video i posted on a thread of his highlights seems very promising (i know these can be misleading). anyway all in all i am looking forward to the pair of them in the halves next season.

| Whoever we sign they will never be good enough.
Lauaki, Dusdon and Flower got some stick on here when they were rumoured to be coming to us. Yet the 3 played very well last night and Dudson is really looking promising for the future. No team in SL can buy a great player from the NRL so players will have to be developed. Smith was released from Saints at Eastmond and Pryce were in the half's and both at that time were very good players for Saints. As for Green i have no idea how good he is but Wane has got it right so far. Also some clubs will have to go through the same issues re half's and i bet they will get a lot worse than us.

| Who's said he's been a terrible signing?
They're wrong if they have because he's been good so far and seems to have settled in really quickly. He'll play 7 next year but he's a handy option at 9 and has done well there this year against Wakey and Catalans.

| I think Smith has had 7 try assists to his name for us this season along with another cracker last night with that kick for Sam Tomkins. Smith's short kicking game close to the line is brilliant and his understanding with Sam Tomkins is already remarkably tight. With Richards and Charnley also good challengers for the ball (plus Gelling might get a crack in the centres) Smith's aerial kicking game close to the line will be a potent threat next season.
I've been very impressed with Matty Smith so far and I have every confidence in him next season. So let other fans slag him off - they'll soon go very quiet when he's setting up tries on a plate for Sam Tomkins and co.
And FWIW I think Blake Green could be an excellent signing too.

It's to be expected in fairness but I've not seen it from our own supporters. I have no issues with Smith or Green from an attacking point of view. I think they both can offer a lot but defensively we may lose a bit. Tommy and Finch are terrific defenders and get through a lot of quality work.

| You dont need Thurston and Marshall type players in the halves. Of course it would be fantastic, but it is not the absolute essential for a championship side.
Personally i am very happy with the two signings.
Both are tidy, efficient and pretty consistent. Both are also pretty nifty in defence and are aggressive in the tackle.
These two surrounded by our powerful pack and supported by our excellent back line will do just fine for me.
It is also feasible that these two really click and we suddenly have two lethal play makers. It is not beyond the realms of imagination.
As for the people bemoaning their signing's. These are the same people who were against the appointments of both Madge and Wane. They also have form for digging at IL.
Read the threads about Carmont or Finch signing and even the older ones which slate Lockers as a player and a captain or the ones panning Tommy as a half.
You will see a few familiar faces pontificating about the demise of Wigan. These folk are now moaning about Smith and Green.
Coincidence? surely not?

| You have got a good one in Green. Very strong near the line and he has a good kicking game. Defensively strong. Only downside is he is not the quickest stand off you will see.Good luck to him next season.( except when you play us of course)

| I was quietly critical of the Smith signing but I've been really impressed with him and think he'll go well for us.

| Smith looks to be a similar player to Deacon, unlikely to win you a game single handed but a good solid reliable cog in the machine. Looks better in defence than Deacon and is several decades younger.

| Blake Green will easily hold his own for you providing he is over his injury problems
Only played 8 games this year
Takes on the line, has a decent kicking game and can defend. Plays on the right hand side of our attack

| Matty Smith looks like a very shrewd signing from what we have seen so far and his versatility is a huge bonus as we have already seen this season but i think his kicking game will be one of his key assets for us in the future - something that we have really struggled with for many years in truth.
Can't say i know anything about Blake Green.
Just hope we have a very strong pack of forwards again next season otherwise it won't really matter who our half-backs are.

2572.jpg Ah, good taste!
What a dreadful thing!
Taste is the enemy of creativeness.

| im quite happy about the halves, however i would EVEN happier if we had a player to come off the bench. (however slow green is said to be, he is quicker and younger than finch)
i dont like this 4 forwards as the subs philosophy, as it doesnt give you the ability to change the game. therefore, another matty smith off the bench would be nice.
this would also put pressure on micky mac, whos game has gone down hill once his place in the side appeared guaranteed.
