| Just booked my ticket for Saints Away and it has cost me £17.00 for an adult ticket in the West Stand as they do not have a price structure for students. If you are an OAP or 16-18 you are a concession £11.00 or junior £8.00. It usually costs me £12.00 at Wigan.
I think the price structure across SL is pretty inconsistent at present it cost the same price of £12.00 in a modern stadia to sit down and watch Wigan as it did to stand on terracing at Wakefield in a below standard stadium. Saints don’t have a student price and the prices at several other clubs vary. The Exiles game is £12.00, again to stand up, i chose the South Stand just in case it rains, as we know only two Yorkshire grounds have overhead cover for away fans to protect them from the elements (a debate in itself).
The away game at Crusaders cost me £10.00 and no booking fee?
Whereas at Wigan it is £2.00 to have the tickets posted out or collected regardless?
I think SL needs to meet with the marketing teams of SL clubs to review ticket prices as i presume they are in charge of their own price structures? Should they be standardised?
IMO i think £12.00 + £2.00 booking is a fair price to watch a top team like Wigan and to sit down in a modern stadium with good facilities and an unobstructed view.
Looking at the wider picture price structures, economic downturn and a lack of loyalty to the fans are costing the Challenge Cup competition in terms of attendances and you can including SL playoffs in this bracket too.
The clubs need to reward the loyalty of the fans especially the season tickets holders by heavily discounting or providing a free playoff game in the first round IMO, i know season ticket holders got in free for the Barrow game, which was a good move but I am talking about attendances at Bradford last Sunday or the first round of the playoffs? If you support your club for 13 home games in SL i am sure the club could allow fans the first playoff game for free to boost attendances?
However the marketing push for the Big One 3 as we have seen has been undone by Sky TV (again a debate in itself) undermining clubs drive to attract new fans into the sport. Maybe they want empty stands and everybody watching at home, I’m not sure......
The fact of the matter is that RL fans will not pay over the odds and travel away in poor weather i.e. Bradford, especially if a game is on TV. Fans are hesitant to part with hard earned money for cup matches and playoff games after buying a season ticket.
As i pointed before the clubs, RFL and SL need to meet and discuss ideas to attract the existing market of fans and new fans to the sport with new innovative promotions and rewards for loyalty. This needs to happen soon as alas we saw at Bradford, and the early rounds of the playoffs last year, crowds are dwindling regardless of what spin Richard Lewis puts out into the media.
IL made a point in the fans forum that Sky invest £1.2m per club per season in TV money, maybe it is time for some of the bigger clubs to form a cartel and start to put their foot down with Sky moving games around, the fans invest far more money in ticket revenue over the course of season than £1.2m, therefore it is a question of what is more important, your fan base or Sky TV? It would be interesting if a big club came forward and said 'no' to moving a fixture and bucked the trend?
Is it a case of 'Who pays the piper calls the tune?'

Like it or not Sky pay a fortune to RL and as a result call the shots. If Football cant dictate to Sky then the RFL certainly has no chance. Without Sky then the clubs couldnt even afford to have full time players and Super League would be a glorified Championship.

And this is the case. Unless a serious competitor to Sky emerges, then professional sport is always going to be dictated to by Sky.

I don't need one thank you. I spent my student loan wisely when at Uni and I'll be starting a PGCE in September. I also wasn't complaining about Saints not doing student tickets.

Given I have a PhD, I think I am suitably qualified to judge whether a university degree (or three in my case) is of any benefit.
