Hi guys.

I'm a Salford who's slightly puzzled by the Phil Bailey signing, and on your predictions thread some think he's the worst signing made for next season.

Other than a fantastic try at Leeds a few years back, I've never really noticed him do a great deal for Wigan. So what did he bring to the Wigan club as player? Was he a leader on the pitch? Did he Graft?

If you have any answers I'd be grateful, as signing Wild, Nero, Anderson and Bailey, in addition Adamson (x 2), Sidlow and Parker seems a little strange to me.

IMO, he'll bring experience, leadership and a ton of hard work.

He'll probably spend at least 25% of his time injured (I'm tempted to say 50%), but his work behind the scenes should improve Salford a LOT.

I hope he stays fit for you guys, but I just can't see it

He ain't a flash player but he works very hard and does the job. He's reliable and shouldn't let you down. You're Salford, you dont need flashy

Can't argue with that! We've already signed Patten and Feka, in addition to Holdsworth, Ratchford and M. Smith.

Does things your other backrow forwards will not/do not want to do.

Gives 100%, good leader, consummate professional.

Will not go the length of the field, may not even make a break all year but will lead the defensive line, organise it and make the hard yards.

He's a top pro.

Fingers crossed Bomber will not stick him in the though as his winger is guaranteed to get zero ball.

Will work all night in defence and is as tough as they come.

Nice bloke also

Also it is a great thing to have many players for few positions. Strength in depth is the name of the game icon_wink.gif

A model professional with plenty of experience and an inspiration/influence to any young forwards you may have coming through. His defensive work is excellent and is a leader on the field (he was a part of our leadership group). He will organise your defense on the park too. Going forward he doesn't possess much speed or footwork, but he can find an offload and will give his all for your side. He has the ability to play at centre, but this is not ideal as he lacks pace and the balance to defend against faster centres with excellent footwork. Overall a decent signing for Salford. Not a player you will remember for the rest of your career and not a player to pick up the MOTM award, but he'll do the hard graft that his team mates will really appreciate & respect.

Probably the most unspectacular player you'll ever see. But solid, hard-working and a great role model for the rest of the squad.

Pros: He'll make you plenty tackles and he's an experienced head.

Cons: He's very slow and spends a lot of time out injured.

From what I can remember he has had one good game in attack in the whole time he was at Wigan, think it was either against Leeds or Saints, he got sky MOM and that was the best ever game he played for Wigan. I'd go as far as saying he is the worst attacker I have ever seen at Wigan, our play used to die 99% of the time when the ball hit him, and if he did pass the ball you would hear everyone in the crowd "bloody hell Bailey passed" so expect nothing from him in attack. However....

In defence he used to be superb. Typical solid 2nd row who would tackle anything that moved. But recently age has caught up with him and he's had his fair share of injurys and his defence isnt what it used to be. I think the last game he played for Wigan was against Saints at home and Leon Pryce just strolled past him like he wasnt there - 2 years ago he would have had him on his and we might have won that game.

Other than those 2 obvious playing attributes he is a great man and will do your club behind the scenes alot more good than he would bad. All the younger players at Wigan couldnt speak highly enough of him & he is a great team player. I just think he's not worth a quota spot/playing contract at this stage in his career. He would make a fantastic academy coach one day - he has been there done that in regards to his playing career but I wish him well at Salford and hope when he leaves you, you are in as good a position as we are now.
