Just showed a quick interview with Dave Whelan. Paying tribute to a former team mate who has died. Behind him on the wall was a picture of Farrell with the Challenge Cup. Maybe, just maybe, he still has some feelings for us.

He's a regular at the DW for our home games. I've seen him.

I don't think Big Dave hates us, I just think he puts the Latics above and beyond everything else, which has caused the animosity.

He probably does like us, he is just more a football man obviously. He wanted to be Mr Wigan and it failed but just because he sold us does not mean he dislikes us.

I'd have thought the tragic change in his family circumstances a few years back probably curtailed his long term plans for both clubs. They rugby have just proved easier to find a buyer for.

He sat near me at the GF and was more visibly passionate than IL! (that's not a grumble at IL by the way)

Was over the moon we won!

Maybe some of you should try reading his book, by reading I mean start at page 1 and finish at page 301!

Dave's a big fan of Wigan RL. He even offered Martin Dermott over 60 grand for his medal collection..

Yeah. Because on the evidence of what's happened since IL bought Wigan Warriors, there's an awful lot Big Dave can teach him about how to run an RL club.

To be honest until the fixture debacle that led to us playing at Widnes I didn't have an issue at all with DW.

It is clear football is his priority, but I dread to think what would have happened to Wigan RL without DW.

I've never been a fan of his tbh, but he did reach out to me when he gave that spontaneous interview on Sky during a match when we were looking doomed (can't remember who we were playing) but he sounded determined, passionate and genuine. Unfortunately he undid all that with his ridiculous stance that forced us to play at Widnes.
I'm sure he had a vision for the town not too dissimilar to perhaps Leeds and more recently Hull who have both seen some degree of success in sustaining RL and AF in the same city. But that's the first big difference. They are cities, Wigan is a much smaller town and both Leeds and Hull have old, well established and certainly in Leeds' case once succesful football clubs. 'tics started with a completely blank canvas and in the modern game it's just not possible to compete at that level of support ot off field marketing. I'd be tempted to say DW has reluctantly accepted now that his vision of ten years ago really isn't going to happen.

As he has put the football up for sale, do you think he'll be back to RL? working with IL

I doubt it.

I don't think either of those men would ever be willing to share something like Wigan RL. IL, when interviewed, talks about it as if he is now realising his lifetime's ambition, whereas DW strikes me as someone who is possibly looking towards retirement.
