| Sorry if the mods want this in the RIP Terry Newton thread but it has a slightly different reason for posting it rather than expressing our disbelief and sadness at Terrys death.
However - Saturday is the biggest game of the season, its going to have fans watching from all sorts of places.
We need to get local press involved, and get as many Wigan fans as possible to all do something different, something special in tribute to Tez.
Personally i think and I hope the players will all wear tshirts with his name and number on the back - even though majority of the lads didnt play with him at Wigan, more than a few will have grown up watching him play for their club - so warming up in a tshirt would be a fitting tribute from the players without doubt.
Ive heard a few fans who want to get
NEWTON
9
RIP
on the back of their shirts especially for the day.
Hopefully we can make this day for Terry - and round it off with a victory.

| As tragic as Terry's death is, and certainly as a club we will mourn his death together, I don't think the lads should play on this news too much. They already have enough pressure on their shoulders as it is. And that is by no means any disrespect to Terry, but a minutes applause and possibly black armbands would be as far, certainly as a club for now, as I would take it.

| I think t-shirts from our players would be taking it abit to far. Fair enough if he was a current player for us i would expect something like that but he only played alongside about 2 or 3 of our current players...
As Cadoo said a minutes silence/applause and black armbands all round would be a fitting tribute.
I would hope to see all our fans sing a round of 'We Love You Newton' before kick off though.

| There's a group of us getting shirts made with the Wigan badge on the front, with League Leaders 2010 on, and Super League Grand Finalists then the date, and Newton 9 on the back.

| Im getting my shirt done with the
Newton
9
RIP
on the back tomorrow. It would be nice if the club acknowledged it with black armbands and we have a well observed minutes silence for Terry.

I think we have to be honest about this. That's not going to happen at Old Trafford with over 75,000 spectators there who will have been drinking throughout the day. That's before we even discuss who will make up the bulk of the opposition support - St.Helens supporters. Don't get me wrong, the majority I'm sure will show some respect, but you can bet your life a minority will ruin it.
A minutes applause would be a better tribute IMO. So sad that I have to say that at an RL game, but that's the most rational solution.

Yeah, it's sad but true, applause would be the best. Still hasn't sunk in though..

| I can't find an appropriate thread to vent and I don't want to ruin any tribute threads.
In light of this news, I hope I don't come across as hasty, but do we need to do more for players that leave the game? Terry Newton did a very silly thing, but did he deserve banishment from the game altogether? I don't wish to sound as though I'm looking for someone to blame, but could the RFL not have worked with Terry Newton to go round clubs and discuss this issue and try to discourage any players that might have been taking it?
Leaving RL must be pretty devastating for some players. Some will take it much harder than others. Being taken out of that day-to-day environment, with your closest friends, with little employment prospects at a relatively young age must/is difficult to take. IIRC didn't Kris Radlinski admit that he suffered from depression when he retired from the game? I bet he wasn't alone.
I hope the game does more for RL players after they leave the game. There was a little bit before the Huddersfield/Saints game about Jon Wilkin setting up a programme where some of the Saints players go on work experience - voluntary - in fields that they'd be interested in when they retire. More things need to be in place to help players find a line of work for when they retire. And even on some levels, just some professional help with getting over retirement from rugby league.

It hasn't for me either. I think it will when we get to Old Trafford and we have that minutes silence/applause.

I think we will win, but winning for Tez will be a great way of scattering the Ghosts of previous GF loses.

| Trying to get a shirt from the 2000-2005 era (preferably the 2002 away shirt due to winning the cup) and then I'm going to get either
Newton
9
or
Newton
9
Legend
on the back
