Thinking of travelling up from Reading to Wigan to see the Bradford game and the shield presentation etc. After enduring 05, 06 etc and moving away at the start of this season, i feel i have to see this (we'll probably lose now but hey ho).
What are the best hotels near to the ground to book? Anyone had any experience of them etc?

Brocket (weatherspoon), plenty of Wigan fans in before and after the game, cheap decent accomodation, and a good breakfast. Not too far to and from the gound.

I've stayed at the Brockett for a couple of games, the last one being Wire and it definately gets my vote. the advantage the Brockett has over other hotels is you don't check out until 11.00, you can then go down and have breakfast which is served until 11.30 meaning you get a lie in after only staggering back at 3am... Bonus.

I use the Wigan Oak, you can get some good deals if you look at the specials page . A very quiet hotel . Steer clear if you are looking for a few bevvies after the match

I would check laterooms in around a week's time, leave it as late as possible.
For £35 you will probably get a good hotel with breakfast compared to a sterile Premier Inn that doesn't include breakfast.
I have used Laterooms many times with work travelling the UK, sometimes only booking on the day I wish to stay, I've stayed in 4* posh hotels with swimming pool / health spa and cooked breakfast ....etc for £45 , much better than those horrible Travel Inns.

| As we live 95 miles from Wigan we always stay over for the Friday night games. We have tried the Bellingham (OK, but rooms a bit 'tired', good breakfast though) and also a B&B somewhere off Wigan Lane but we have found The Brocket to be consistently the best, it's clean, the staff are very nice and it's cheap  We will be staying there 3/9 and hoping for a mega PARTAYYYY!! |
