McIlorum is a thug.
I watched the World Club Challenge and do not remember McIlorum standing out in the beaten Wigan team. I have read a few reports to refresh my memory and struggle to find a reference to McIlorum. Indeed, Warea-Hargreaves scored a try so perhaps McIlorum should have tried to tackle him rather than beating him senseless.
It is amusing that a number of posts also refer to Ryan Bailey. If you need to make that comparison to try and highlight McIlorum's qualities then he needs some new friends.

Well - Shaun Wane is proving himself to be a pretty decent coach. And he has said that MMc is the toughest player he has ever coached. He also makes him captain in Lockers absence.
I think that's all you need to know my friend. It may be that Shaun Wane knows a thing or two about MMc's attributes that you are not party to. Just a thought.

| I think fans of other SL teams would love to have McIlorum in their team, even though they will never admit it.

| The Wigan squad was in my local a couple of years ago celebrating after beating Sts I think.
It was clear to me that MM was one of Waney's favourite players.
I reckon if you asked SW who was his must have Wigan players, MM would be in his top three.

Daryl Clarke in exchange for that nasty sneering 'limited ability' thug?? No thanks, Clarke is on a different planet.
Mcilorum ran 40mtrs to break Kirk dixons jaw at our place, week after week we see him and the other kray twin Bateman niggling and sneering at the opposition instead of playing rugby.
It may well be part and parcel of the game, but I expect more from a club with the tradition of the mighty Wigan, which is now sadly a team reduced to the thuggish tactics of some Sunday morning amateur teams.
Ill stick with the entertainers thank you (no matter where we finish - top 8 or bottom eight)
You can keep blindly defending your council park thugs

Clarke is a good player and will get better next season at Warrington.

Warrington led 16-2 in Saturday's Grand Final, but their joy was short-lived as Wigan roared back to win the Super League title and extend the Wire's 58-year wait to be champions:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_10174.png |

| A big fan of Micky Mac's aggression, strength and defence, but i'd just like to see a bit more intelligence and finesse when we're going forward. His distribution can be a bit off at times too...

Yep, pity for him that he's leaving a top 4 side to go to wire

There are certainly similarities . . . . .
Newton a far more dangerous player IMO, in pretty much every sense of the word!

| McIllorum is fantastic for us. He is unlike any other modern day hooker in that his primary role is to destroy. Which he does fantastically well (he now officially owns Roby). His running is better than he is given credit for - in the CC Final and the Grand Final he made vital breaks - and his distribution must be good enough, given how effective we are in scoring when he is on the pitch. The biggest thing about him is that he pretty much always out plays whoever he is opposite in big games. And that is a priceless asset. In contrast, Newton often saved his weaker performances for bigger games. Eye catching is not the same as effective.
Mac will have a more glittering career than Newton, and will be a far better for Wigan.
