I was just about to post the same about George Fairbain. He was the most complete fullback I have seen at Wigan.
Great attacker, great defence and a good goalkicker.
He was also a good bloke to talk to, he used to come into the Poacher in Winstanley some Thursday nights and would always have a chat.
Not much between Gary Jack and Graeme Langlands but I too would take Langlands as he was great goalkicker.

Agree, and to win 'Man of Steel' in a relegated team speaks volumes.

Before my time Rogues so I'll have to take your word for it. I know in my time watching rugby I have never seen a more 'complete' fullback than Jacks. Perhaps the only one whose attack and defense were equally brilliant, which is why I rate him higher than the likes of Slater, Lockyer etc. despite them being world class in their own right. Certainly when considering "in the last 30 years" as was asked, I have seen none better.

| If you moved Tomkins to fullback, I think he could potentially rival a few of these.

23997_1287161421.jpg
Great game of rugby league. Fantastic atmosphere, Wigan were breathtaking and dominant in all areas for the first 25 minutes, coupled with us making alot of dumb mistakes, then fortunately they brought McIlorum on which helped us back into the game. I thought some of the tries we scored to get us within two we're out of this world stuff. Towards the end we had to force it a little and we had a few things go wrong, i.e Monas kick on the first for King and Solomona going off who was causing havoc. Wigan were clinical in their eventual execution of us. Proud of Wire today and gave us a little glimpse to the future. Silverwood was awful as per, but I expect no less. Tomkins is a world class player and by far the best english player in SL. Wigan are a champion side and would be a worthy winner of taking our title as challenge cup. Good luck over the next month and a bit.
:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_23997.jpg |

| Quote: NickyKiss "Hate to admit it but Slater is a better fullback then Rads ever was. Rads was an outstanding player and could do some things better then Slater can but in attack Slater is just sensational and can do things Rads could only dream about.
Radlinski was better then the other 2 by a distance though.'"
In a fullback I look at defence dar more than attack, and Rads wins it hands down over any fullback I've watched. He was immense under a high ball, he could take anyone down one on one and was as brave a players as I've watched.

| Billy Slater easily the best full back on that list.... catches the majority of kicks on the fly, very good defensively, and is exceptional in attack, either through support play or the odd spectacular try, is prone to the odd mistake but he takes risk and so rare mistakes are inevitable, all the fullbacks on that list made/make the odd error.
Also people are mentioning slater not being as good defensively or under the high ball, but he plays in the best league in the world, and subsequently the Aussies attackers and kickers are far better than their SL counterparts.. so its hard to judge how good certain players were when they never played regularity against the best players in the world.

33718_1325770967.jpg Games as big as Grand Finals define individuals and clubs. Remember, we only rent these journeys. In my time I had Pat Richard's shirt. Ellery Hanley had Sean O'Loughlin's jersey. Sam Tomkins is wearing Radders' number one jersey. Andy Coley is wearing Shaun Wayne's jersey. You have to make a mark in these shirts before you hand it down to someone else. Hand it back. So be aware for 80 minutes that you are not only playing, but you are also writing history and creating legacy. How many people actually write history - not many? A big stage demands big players…..INSPIRE YOUR TEAM MATES.

| Another poll appears on here without being thought through. I refuse to vote due to the fact that Hampson is not on the list (or jim Sullivan). Radlinski readilly admits he learned everything about being a fullback from Hampson, and to name Wellens in the same poll under the title of the thread is utterly disgusting and thoughtless.

My dad said the same. He was most enthusiastic about Jim Sullivan, though.

The poll isn't for the best ever. Just the ones on the list.

| Radz? Cherry and White tinted specs.
Couldn't break wind or create much. Simply a fast player with good positional skills and a good tackle.
Not got the same 'it' factor as Slater, Hayne or even Boyd.
Today the FBs are better than ever. Used as an attacking weapon with ball handling skills excellent defense and a great support player. Many past FBs are no where near as good due to how the position has evolved.
