Lenegan was explaining on GMR how he could afford these new deals. He said he inherited a club that was paying top whack to about 4 or 5 players with the young local lads below all on a pittance in comparison. Over his time here top whack players (I guess) like Barrett, Calderwood, Paleaaesina, Mathers have all gone and I guess Fielden's pay is reduced in his last contract. So the pay is now more evenly spread and we are now benefitting from it big style.

What program on GMR was that on? I'd like to see if it's on their listen again facility.

If the rumours are to be believed Hock has also signed a 5 year deal too

To long in my opinion if true. I'm all for him coming back, but giving him a five year deal is a little to much.

Tonights Friday Night "Manchester Sports" which had commentary of an excellent game between Swinton and Halifax.

He's not allowed to sign anything. It's just rumours although it wouldn't surprise me if he's been told what we'll offer him when he returns.

He was talking other stuff as well. Like he thinks what Wigan are doing is key to building a strong England team. Thinks it's cr*p that players playing in the NRL will make a strong England team. He things building them up within a club from age 16 is the way to do it.

Another comment is that he believes they shouldn't raise the salary cap interestingly. He thinks it should remain the same. We can't afford to match the £4 million union wage structure (or something like) so raising our cap isn't going to make a jot of difference if players are tempted to union.

Made up with these new deals. I'm obviously pleased to see the Tomkins lads sign up to long term deals but to see Farrell and Charnley also tied to 5 year deals is hugely pleasing. In Farrells case I don't think i've seen a lad come into a side and look as comfortable as he has in his first 12 months around the group. He really is quite some talent and a place in the England squad mid season must be his goal. Also Charnley looks one hell of a prospect, he's built like a brick sh*thouse for a wing/centre considering he's only 19 and he's another potential international.

Add in long deals for superb squad players like Goulding and Hansen and today is really as big as a day for our club as the Grand Final day was against Saints. It confirms a trophy challenging future for at least 4 or 5 years.
