Well going off your profile, apparently your world does revolve around Wigan. Strange.

Correct.
I'm pleased that you have now grown up enough to accept it.

So have I. I'd just say that was typical Tony Smith. The man never looks comfortable talking to the press and his interviews are always very awkward. To me it just seems a typically awkward Tony Smith interview.
Madge was never comfortable with the media. He has improved considerably from when he first came over. He just spouts the same lines about performances and never gives any journalist the opportunity to sensationalise any of his interviews. Every week it would be - "Wigan coach says lads have been working hard in traning and need to put in big performance".

Me, nah. Your coach though? Maybe you should be dishing advice out to him.

A very good assessment.

My mates a rugby league journo and he can't stand the pair of them. They're both pretty dull when it comes to interviews and they give less then little away.
On the plus side they're both fantastic coaches and I know which qualities I'd perfare!

| Quote: sally cinnamon "That article looks like its the journalist wanting to have a pop at Wigan by putting words in TS's mouth.
He has obviously asked him a loaded question to try and get him to say Wigan are a boring team etc, which Smith hasn't done, he has just talked about Warrington, so the interviewer has inferred that 'his disdain for their style of play is obvious' and brought up the fact that John Kear criticised Wigan's 'style of play'. That has no relevance at all to tomorrows game.
Obviously a sporting life journalist with an agenda against Wigan and wanting to try and use Tony Smith to justify it.'"
Your right there
Over the last two years, i have been pretty open mouthed when listening to some of the sheer fabrication by many rugby league fans and a few coaches. The VT is full of absolute cr@p about us constantly and whilst the vast majority of this grudge makes me chuckle, some of it reduces grown men and woman to plebish (probably a made up word) levels
I remember the glory days from about 1990 onwards, but I was a youngster who was not really privy to any real hostility toward this club from supporters or coaches of other clubs.
It seems that it lurks at every level and on occasion, even a rational argument (by SOME Wigan fans) will have fire breathed on it.
Now i can understand a fan of another club showing a partisan opinion against us, but the sheer volume of stirring by so called professional coaches or parochial hacks is disturbing, to say the least.
This hack journo has attempted to put Tony Smiths comments in completely the wrong context and has (unfortunately) been successful in realing in a few easy pickings.
TS is a very good coach who has turned Warrington into a very, very dangerous side. He has also done this by having more class in his little finger than the likes of Mclennan, Kear, Agar, Matterson etc.
Perhaps a lesson in humility would not go a miss on that lot. If they can gain respect of others, then perhaps their players might respect them just enough to win a game or two.

If anyone fell into a trap it was Tony Smith. I said earlier that he was smarter than the likes of Kear, Brown, et al, but in this instance he has let his guard down before a huge game (nerves?). He could have held his cards close to his chest as usual, but instead he has made a point about how his team plays entertaining rugby for the good of RL and the fans, which obviously is as opposed to the boring, defensive style we supposedly play according to the more overt criticism we've had from other coaches.

| honestly, this is untrue. smith says he is not going to talk about wigan and just about wire and then you make a thread saying smith criticised wigan. can you read? it's journalism smith gave him nothing there so he had to refer to jon kears comments as smith didn't make any.

That's certainly one interpretation, albeit an extremely naive one.

Well y'know, he never really wants to talk to the press, y'know, I mean what coach does, y'know, it's all about performances, y'know, and I'm sure Tony will be looking for his side to, y'know, put in a good performance, y'know, and chances are the result will come from that. Y'know.
