Tuson's stats are appalling, not for the first time this season either. I cant see how he is in the 17 or what he offers to the team. As others have said though a very disappointing set of stats from the forwards in general, bar Lima, and they will have to up their game a lot on Friday.'"
Tuson only came on in the 2nd half to spell McIlorum. He seems to be at the bottom of the pecking order when it comes to getting off the bench. Only got on the field for about 10 minutes yesterday. Hard to make an impact in that short a space of time

I'd be amazed if he plays.
There wasn't any real intensity to the game though, and Child was whistle happy too which doesn't help forward momentum. We'll be better on Friday.

When he has played longer his stats have still been poor. In a way though what you are saying just backs up what I mean. If he is thought of so poorly then he is just a waste of a bench spot and we may as well have another prop on there.

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know

We need him to play in my opinion. What is wrong with him? I can't even remember?

I'd say we might as well have Mellor, Powell, Russell or Logan Tomkins on the bench given the importance of having one or two of those players stepping up. If Tuson barely gets on the pitch there's little point in him being used. Farrell or Flower could be used at 13 if Wane still wanted to move O'Loughlin to 6 so he wouldn't be forced into playing one of the youngsters but they'd be there on the bench if needed. It might just let us have a player on the bench who can really change a game.

| Disappointing stats from a disappointing performance, not surprising really.
The team struggle for motivation against the lower sides IMO. We've seen what we can do against the likes of Leeds and Catalan when the players want it enough, and we've seen equally what they can do to the likes of Castleford and Bradford when in the correct frame of mind. It's about finding that right mentality each and every week.
I do think we'll put in a top performance this week though, the players have shown they can rise to the occasion for the big one's.

He's played well so far this year Tuson, even with the limited amount of game time he's received.
I liked the idea of trying Russel in a few games at 9. I'm not talking about moving him there permanently. But Russel coming off the bench in the latter stages of a match with his speed, strength and footwork could cause a fair few problems for a tiring defense.

ankle ligament damage. Out for 2-3 weeks so it'd be a risk to play him next week

| The marker tackling stats perhaps shows why we struggled defensively. Ben Flower aside those are pretty low efforts.

That's basically doing what Leeds do with Burrow. He doesn't defend at 9 but attacks at hooker and basically just causes all sorts of problems running with the ball. Russell could possibly be used in that way, Mellor at a stretch.
I also think Powell could easily play at 9 as well as 7 and while he's not like Russell or Mellor he's still got good footwork and defends much better. He'd be a much smarter number 9.
I think Tuson has improved a lot since last year but if he isn't being played much I don't see what the point is in having him on the bench given how we really need to try out some of the younger players.

I remember reading an article in Rugby League World about Powell and how he began his career at 9 until the coaching staff felt a move to 7 would broaden his game. From the limited amount I've seen of him he looks better suited to hooker than scrumhalf. It would be nice to have a real smart thinker at 9 with a superb kicking game.
Of course we won't know anything until these young lads get a chance, just not all at once I hope.

| Flower is a good squad player and may prove a decent long term bet as a grafter in the backrow but he simply isn't a prop IMO. He's not big enough and around the middle he's been caught out in defence a couple of times.
It would be great to have Mossop back in for Flower on Friday but if not I'd go for the size of Spencer on the bench.
As for the stats of guys like Faz and Tuson no wonder they're low. They got hardly any minutes for some reason with Waney preferring to run Hansen and Hock in to the ground (no rests this week).
Overall though a lot of the stats reflect the general lethargy of the side.

'" Must be going back a long time, I watch most of the youngsters games, and I don't remember him playing at hooker for the last 4 or 5 years, apart from maybe the odd game due to injury.

It was before his Wigan day's when he was still at St Pats.

I agree.
Hock and Hansen are playing a lot of minutes very comfortably each week. The four forward prop rotation is working fine & throwing Liam Farrell into the mix from the bench has worked very well. Chris Tuson seems wasted in a sense as a substitute - purely for the very little game time he gets because of the fitness of our forwards & all this is before you even consider the relatively little impact he seems to bring from the bench.
Mellor and Russell have been the two most impressive lads for me & I'd go with one of them lads on the bench rather than four forwards. Gives us a plan B should something not be working during the game.
Just my opinion.
