| Quote ="MadDogg"Two great games in two weeks - very enjoyable. Saints were great but Wigan are a very tough and resilient side these days. Not pretty and I doubted we would have enough points in us to get through it but Zach Eckersley was the difference. Players staying down looking for penalties and cards was the downside but inevitable given the way the game is refereed now.
I still think it will be tough for us in the coming weeks to manage without both French and Field - I don't believe the LLS is won yet.'"
It was very frustrating seeing players go down after minimal contact on both sides I agree.
I think if we get a 9 back we can cope without our 2 game breakers for a few weeks though.

| I thought both coaches spoke sense after the game. The game could have gone either way. I thought Sironen was immense for them and Harry Smith excelled second half for us. Hopefully Marshy practices his crossfield kicking this week

I reckon adrenalin must've taken over there, a dink into open space and we had a queue of players waiting to score, instead he nearly boots it into Robin Park, good job it didn't matter in the end

The strange thing is he is normally excellent in those situations I actually can’t remember one he’s got wrong and most have been much tougher to execute than the one he had tonight.
Has to be said though both he and Miski were excellent again tonight in those tough key effort areas that they both excel in.

| I think both sides will walk away really happy with that nights work. The rest of the league less so! Both sides missing some huge players and they drop in Robertson, Eckersley, Farrimond, Stephens etc and they don’t miss a beat.
On a less positive note, both sides should be embarrassed with all the lying down and so should the powers that be! We’re breeding this and it will get worse. I thought we did our best to avoid it earlier in the season but we got hammered doing that and have decided if we can’t beat them, we’ll join them. The whole game needs a reset.
Finally on a more positive note, Welsby forgot to watch the tape of Harry Newman blowing kisses at Headingley last season. Never go too early!

| I thought there were a few forward passes let go. Robertson stuck to his task well, after a shaky start, and all credit to the lad. ZE did great, and I thought Thompson was just massive. Would have loved him to get a try.

| What a win that is against all the odds, terrible night for all those who thought we were a 1/2 man team.
We showed why we are the kings of rugby and the best club in world.
The hooker issue really hampered us but we found a way.

I fully agree with you there. I am sick of seeing windmills on the pitch. O’Neill was a massive miss for us tonight, in my opinion he is the best 9 in SL. There are going to be a lot of sore bodies tomorrow, I think a few will be struggling for next week.

Serious question, why is Welsby so petulant? I can’t see him having a night down King St any time soon.

| French out for 8 weeks, so it's even more pleasing to see Eckersley look so comfortable at fullback. He'll be needed between now and Field coming back. It's frustrating to lose Field and French at the same time but it's going to pay off handsomely down the track with the experience Eckersley and Farrimond are getting.

I need to watch it back but it felt like we got very very little in the second half, with the push on Farrell being missed and some iffy looking knock on/forward pass decisions. Saints won the penalty count 5-2, so it certainly doesn't add any weight to the social media posts I'm seeing from Saints fans saying Moore gave Wigan a helping hand.
Overall I didn't think Moore had any real bearing on the result and the game itself should be celebrated. It just firms up my opinion that Saints are quite comfortably Wigan's biggest threat when it comes to winning the Grand Final in October.

| Heh! I am obviously in the minority here who feel that Wire are a bigger threat than Saints. I just think Saints don't really have that much in attack, they don't have a Harry Smith, or a Bevan French, or, indeed, a George Williams. Time will tell.

| For all the Saints fans moaning about the ref, there was a very late tackle by Percy on Wardle on the same play as the Faz incident. when Faz.
Cut out ball to Marshall and Wardle was hit without getting the ball.

Maybe in the minority but certainly not alone Moto. They don't have enough cutting edge. They still had their best (if not necessarily first choice) spine out there tonight. We were missing 3 of ours, our attacking interchange hooker, and had our stand off constantly in at dummy half yet still outscored them 3 tries to 2. Let's be honest here, that could easily have been 5 or six to 2 as well. I haven't seen Marshy mess up 1 of those cross field kicks in years, let alone 2 in 1 game! We were held up over the line and also had 2 players taken out off the ball without a pen when yards from their line (although we may have taken the 2 points there).
We are apparently a 2 man team playing without both those players and still beat them. Imagine Wire beating them without Dufty, Williams, Walker (plus all their reserve hookers) and I doubt the Warrington faithful would be saying they're still their biggest threat.
I know they had a lot of players missing too but most of theirs would help get them better field position rather than do anything with it and, ultimately, doing anything with it is the same problem they've had for a couple of years now.
Great game though!

| Yeah, not much from the bench really, which considering Saints played with 14 and a bit players was a little disappointing. In fairness they all seemed to get quite limited minutes, with Havard and Ellis doing big stints.

I think all of Thompson, Harvard and Ellis did the full 80 if I'm not mistaken. Both teams effectively played with 14 players for the most part.
