I doubt he'd have been going to a lower division anyway.

And what do you know about John Bateman? And with a plonker like Hardaker in the Whinos ranks its a bit cheap

| It's clearly been a serous incident and let's just hope that's the end of the matter and whoever was involved can get their heads down and do the right thing by the club.
I'd love to think Bateman will be here long term but I'm still not counting my chickens on that one.

| as an outsider looking in, am surprised if the claims are true you are keeping him, it will surely bring diversions amongst the players and do you really want someone who does this type of thing to a team mate? yes he is a top player but imo you get rid if the claims are true

Yet no doubt 99% of opposition supporters would have been jumping up and down with joy had today's announcement been that Wigan were getting rid and was moving to their club with immediate effect. Strange that!

Punishment given, let's move on.

The statement states that the club sought independent advice on the investigation and the punishment and that it was reviewed twice to make sure nothing was missed. I'd say they've handled very well and I don't know of any other club who would slap such a hefty penalty on one of its best players.
If Wigan had opted to move him on, they would have been the only real loser. The player would continue to play for good money at a high level and his new club would have inherited a hell of a player. As I see it, Bateman has got a severe penalty, the clubs integrity is intact and Wigan retain a great young player who hopefully learns from this and goes on to achieve great success with the club. Time for the rumours to end and we all move on.

Why wouldn't I?
I do know the feelings of people within the club and trust me they are not very positive towards Bateman irrespective of what comes out in the media
These self same people have seen plenty of training ground bust ups over the years which have resolved themselves as those individuals involved knew full well that things often get heated in training, especially when results aren't going the clubs way
Whatever anyone says or thinks for that matter about this incident, then let me tell you that this was way,way above anything like that.
If that self same incident had happened to one of our own kids then I think people would see things a bit differently and would be demanding a far sterner sentence, maybe one which was handed out in a court of law
FWIW I believe that the club have gone as far as they possibly could in fining Bateman £10K plus banning him for 8 weeks without actually losing a valuable asset by sacking him and letting one of our rivals snap him up for free
We also have retained a player who is under contract and is one that we could possibly sell for a large transfer fee if things don't work out as planned
Would that option have been available to Mossop from our club if he had been the guilty party?
Some people within our club reckon not and that he would have been sacked without a doubt, that is causing some animosity within the club
Moving forward for the club, and that is the only thing that matters IMO,is that the club have got it right and that these negative feelings towards Bateman don't stop us winning a trophy or three this season, because if we don't win anything then strong questions will need to be answered

What has Mossop got to do with this?

| I think its all down to the coach and the culture he has instilled.
Justin Carney transgressed at Cas. He was a very valuable player on a 5 year contract but he broke the code of conduct that Powell had insisted all his players adhered to. He had to go despite the protestations from the fans.
Very similar at Shudds, Ferres broke Andersons code and Leeds got him for nothing as Anderson was worried if he kept him it would set a precedent.
It would seem that Wanes code of conduct is much more lenient than other clubs especially if it is a valuable player. Considering some on here claim he has previous just what does he have to do to get kicked out of the club?
