a sl season is not 2 games though, the players may love him,but imo he would not be capeable of keeping wigan where they are now,as i said only time will tell mate

| Quote: Rogues Gallery "Dave, surely you're not so naive to believe that Wigan or Maguire would inform the press of every detail of his contract?'"
A contract that has an option is not "every detail" but something that is usually announced as a matter of routine.
They inform the press about players and coaches contract options routinely Why tell us Hoffman has an option and not just say he was here for two years? It would not serve any purpose to be dishonest would it, setting false expectations. Nobles' contract options were well known.
Or are you suggesting they routinely spin every announcement in the best possible light which in reality would mean any statement form the club on any contract was worthless propaganda and we could not actually believe anything they say?

If there was an opportunity to take Wayne Bennett, which I highly doubt there would be, even if it was only for 1 season, there are very few clubs/countrys in world RL who would shun that opportunity imo.

| I know this may sound a little far-fetched but if Madge does leave the club at the end of the season there is one man in particular that I would love to see as head coach of Wigan...
Shaun Edwards.
A Wigan legend. Fantastic coach at Wasps and Wales RU. On top of that he said last year in an interview that he would always love to come back and coach Wigan at some point. I think Waney is a future head coach of Wigan but think he could be a Dennis Betts if not careful as we don't want to throw him in the deep end right away but Shaun has a lot of experience. Captain of Wigan. GB and England international. Coach at London Wasps. Coach at Wales RU.
I just think that if you have Edwards and Wane as head and assistant then you have two major factors in the 1987 WCC team and the dominant time of Wigan. Bring back the good ol' days (however, current ones are pretty good also!) and let him do it if he wants the job!

| I there was only 1% chance of getting Bennett i would hope we do everything we can.
Wane learning from Maguire and then the Greatest of all time. can only be good for him and the club.

| I really hope we do not become a club that tries to live off Madges legacy if he does go, ie promoting from within every time. Wane has perhaps earned his stripes, but a third generation rarely works as the principles become watered down and dated.
See Bradford after Brian Smith for the perfect example of this.
New ideas are essential to keep a club moving forward. You rarely if ever get new ideas from clones.

If you bother to read the threads you post in I have made it clear several times where I got it from it was on triple M radio news(sports bit) at 11am MG and matty johns are presenters on there so the rugby news is pretty spot on. Yesterday they also broke the Todd Carney story(late to court judge went made) before anyone else.
triple M might have got it from RL world or twitter? I heard it on the radio at work.

TS has got a club thank you very much.
In all seriousness, madge is a great coach, but from what i've heard everyone of your boys, aussies included loves wane to bits, and another thing i've heard is that madge is just a figurehead type of coach in training, where as wane is the guy doing the hard graft. So maybe it would not be too much of a change.

Good point and a refreshing one - i hope that the next coach is not chosen simply because of how popular he may be with supporters or the players.
There seems to be an automatic assumption that the job will be handed to Shaun Wane once Madge leaves - im not saying that would be the wrong decision but if i just hope that all options will be looked at and if there is another high quality coach available - particularly in Australia then this should be considered.
Perhaps Ian Lenagan will consult Wayne Bennett and Tony Rae before appointing his next coach - it worked a treat last time.

He would surely end up with a recommendation of a Madge clone wouldn't he if such a person existed? The game hasn't changed in one season such that there are already radical new ideas in Oz.
Over time I accept you need to bring in new ideas but I think Wane would be the man for job now if these rumours are true as the last thing we need is new systems and coaching methods when the current ones recently introduced have not had enough time to cement themselves. The only possible option different from this would be Bennett for a season to add to Wane's education.

| I must say I am getting a bit fed up of Australians cutting short their 'tours' here in the UK. It's happening too often. The same doesn't appear to be so with New Zealanders.

| Wane has been in the background of the club for a number of years; why did it take so long to recognise his ability? Lenegan wants to promote the team with a Wigan bias but would not name Wane as head coach on the back of him being a former Wigan player. Personally I think that Radlinski may be the next head coach.
