| So apparently Latics have had to put the chippy up for sale and the administrator wants 500k for the property as funds are very low now that the Americans have walked away, according to Gerald Krasner the money will run out before Christmas and they wouldn't be able to finish the season if no buyer comes in.What i would like to know is if they are that desperate for cash then why don't they accept IFL bid for the stadium as that would give them a few million to keep them going

I suspect (and hope), that Leneghan is playing this cleverly and 'biding his time'. Administrators know they have his offer in the locker, although are trying to explore if they can find a buyer who will take on the club in its entirety as they think this increases chance of a sale.
So this means the options are
a) ensure he is sufficiently communicating with each of the buyers who are willing to take on the club, but won't pay the full amount - So he is in the prime seat to take on the stadium / consortium buys the club should that eventuate. Appears he is doing this, but important to caution that we don't too aggressively fight the terms of any lease - as per stories of considering moves away etc.
b) wait for the buyers to drop out, as they have continued to so far, and pick up the stadium for even less when latics are inevitably liquidated. Seems the most likely atm, but carries two big risks - 1) An 11th hour buyer comes in to take the lot in a cut price deal (must ensure that relationships are sufficiently strong with administrators to ensure he could structure something better) 2) That picking up in this way causes even more entrenchment and negative feeling in the town between football and rugby.....Ticheads would hate him (and WRL even more) if they lose their club and he picks up the stadium at snip..."Thugby / chubbies stole our ground" type nonsense would prevail for decades from delusional and disillusioned tics!!! Engagement and support to any phoenix club would be important - perhaps if they reform in the national league a cut price deal could be struck for them to play at the Robin Park Athletics Arena to placate?
If he is managing these risks (which I think, knowing how shrewd he is he probably is) he is probably playing the long game - where it is much more sensible to leave the stadium as a burden for the administrators / football club to incur the costs whilst the ground cannot make revenue, than it is for him to pick up the cost.
The best case scenario for us would be lenghan doing a deal around Christmas time when the proverbial is about to hit the fan. He will get the stadium at the lowest possible price, whilst only needing to cover 1/2 of the winter running costs until March, when society will open back up again and games with spectators are likely.
He's just got to cover the above risks in the meantime, to make sure no one swoops in with a last minute deal (like smurthwaite) and takes the ground from under his nose!

| That rumoured 500k asking price for the chippy is correct, to my understanding. They’ve tried for a little while to shift it and are having absolutely zero joy.

Other than a property developer, who would want it?
For me, either Lenagan buys it as the leagues club style museum he has always wanted or we end up with a nandos or something.

| Did it ever make any money that chippy? I don't think it did due to the fact Sharpey's nickname was 'failed chippy mon' IIRC.

Nando’s is already going onto Robin Park, in a matter of months. It’s half built.
There are very few options for a building of its size, in a crap location for anything other than matchday.

I vaguely remember a news story about a manager or supervisor stealing which contributed to the chippy's demise.
Edit - that did happen but only £6k so probably not the main reason.

Excellent trolling again...
So if you don't like the place then it's a no. That's regardless of if they place is full all week and other people want to go.
You've labelled it crap, so there we go.

The main reason is that it was borderline robbery it was that over priced. It could have been utilised and priced so much better.
I don’t see why IL would want it either to be honest. A Wigan RL museum? Might be nice in the short term but realistically who’s going to go to it? It just wouldn’t be commercially viable IMO.

Thats true, but if the stadium becomes available, then space there could be used as a club bar, almost a hard rock type thing with the musuem memorabillia on the walls, so it give the fans a base on match days (if we ever have them again), the supporters bar in the sports arena was just starting to get established, well the riversiders had got their towels on the sunbeds. and we'd heard all Andy Gregorys jokes. But it was better than giving the money to the latics
but a more perminant arrangement could be beneficial if developed correctly, wigans history could be a great way of developing cash flow, there are lots of events that are worth commemorating, but it needs to be done right.

Agreed, I'm rugby mad but would still probably only go once to a museum, and spend little. A supporters bar would be good but again I don't know what they would do with it on on non-matchdays. Not exactly in a good spot to pick up passing trade.

Not so much passing trade, more to do with the death of socialising in pubs and clubs.
Now entertainment is all about watching Sky television or looking at a SmartPhone with a four pack or bottle of wine.

It’s a good idea in principle but my issue is what happens in the off season? 5months of nothing more than passing trade, even in season it’s every other week and maybe more if we’re not in the CC or the pitch is being relayed. I like the idea but in reality it just won’t work, I’m not sure what that building could be used as. Gym? No. Chippy? No. Bar? Doesn’t really work.
