| Quote ="Akinwale Arobieke"The 'history of why' - What, a throwaway line in an interview with Maurice LIndsey 35 years ago? That it? Given they have no natural footballing rival Latics fans have had to fashion an identity for their support which involves hating Wigan RL. Some try way too hard to impress and convince their fellow fans that they are big Latics men by going overboard on the Wigan RL thing. I don't think there's much more to it than that to be honest. No other set of football fans takes them seriously enough to get involved and we have the rivalry with Saints, which is a natural sporting rivalry. One that makes sense.
Hope Lenegan stiffs em''"
I thought it was because Mo wouldnt let them use CP when they had work done at Springfield park which caused the Latics plenty of issues.

Don't think it was work, think they wanted to use it for a League cup Qtr Final game versus Liverpool in the Late 80's?
There was the interview thing also
End of the day at various points each club has been on the Up or on the way down at various times, and neither has had major support off the other.
I hope Latics survive, the Town needs both and certainly will Post Covid when opposing fans boost the economy, Each club needs the other more than they'd care to admit.
I have very good friends that were made redundant by this issue and I'm gutted for them
Wigan Rugby fans would certainly not be happy if the state of the ground got significantly worse, although the pitch issue is slightly less important for us it will certainly not benefit us playing on pitches that aren't having Hundreds of Thousands a year spent on it rather than a Few quid.
I'm indifferent to them as a club/sport - I've got past the Bandwagon days of the Mid 00's up to around 2013 when suddenly they had 15/20,000 Lifelong supporters and not the 2/3k that used to actually turn up giving me stick about being in there stadium.
Water under the bridge now as far as I'm concerned.
I'm a little surprised that the Leneghan Bid didn't take off, but if he couldn't find support from within the town (Whelan/Ainscough etc.) then it's certainly not something IMO that he could do on his own (Bit without knowing who was or wasn't in it with him it's hard to say).
I think it is fair to say that any football club IFL was involved in would have to "Cut it's cloth" and given the current status of their income/outgoings their current level is closer to bottom of 2nd division as it is championship, and maybe the Administrators think that other bids, with more capital to invest provide a better chance for the club to move forward long term (Rather than IFL buying them for £1 and their future be Lower leagues living by their means).

| The Liverpool at Central Park was a complete non-starter. It was 5 months after Hillsborough, and at the time the assumption by the world was that the disaster had been caused by rampaging scousers. Central Park had zero segregation and was a decrepit old ground.
Lindsay's comments about them being a smashing little club playing in our backyard were patronising. But then again, he was a slimy individual anyway, and wasn't universally popular with our support. It just showed him up to be an ungracious weasel.

Looks like the Latics fan club has bent the ear of the administrator last paragraph.
"They (the fans) didn't want (Ian) Lenegan, they don't want Smurthwaite, they want the Americans," he told Supporters Club representative Barry Worthington in a Q&A.
"To be honest, I don't mind who buys it. But they have to pay the right price."

You must be one of the worse element of Latic's to come out with comments like that as Lindsay was well respected by Wigan supporters, especially when along with Jack Hilton, Tom Rathbone and Jack Robinson, were responsible for one of the most successful periods in the history of the Warriors club.
Only show the nastiness that still prevails by some Latic's "supporters" against the Warriors with the latest example being the news that they do not want the Ian Lengan consortium, some Americans or even Uncle Tom Cobley to own their club and hoping of hearing any possible news that their Knight in shining armour called Uncle Dave will come to the rescue.
They should be grateful that anyone wants to own their little debt ridden club and accept the fact that Uncle Dave saw the writing on the wall after achieving what he wanted to achieve by winning a major trophy and after 2013, not putting in the same investment on players that he had done on the way up to the Premiership and the winning of the FA Cup and doing what he always has done when he could see one of his businesses going downhill, getting rid of it.

| The phrase “beggars can’t be choosers” springs to mind with Latics. The sympathy I have for their situation is decreasing as each high and mighty comment i read from their fans. “We don’t want him, we don’t want that, IL is X, Smurfwaite is Y”.
Do they actually want a club? They’re acting like those that go Alberts in Standish every week thinking they’re better than they actually are, ten bob millionaires who actually think they’re something.
I was under the impression that if a buyer wasn’t found by 31/08 they’d be liquidated? I can’t wait for this to be over so the arrogant comments about how good they are, how Man City shouldn’t buy Messi because they’re club is only up for £5m, how Lisa Nandy isn’t doing anything despite her doing something, how Krasner is milking it to get paid more, how IL tried to screw them over, how the players that left are sell out’s and should have stayed, how great Whelan and his grandson were despite them selling it to the Chinese and barely lifting a finger to help their situation, how it’s all “the eggs” fault, how we don’t pay enough to play in the stadium, how Maurice Lindsay is still living rent free in their heads over 30yrs on, how they need two training grounds, how the stadium belongs to them, how Will Griggs sale for £4m last year could buy the club and how it’s all Wiganers fault for not attending games and supporting other teams and not Wigan Athletic.
I think I’ve covered everything. That feels lighter

| Browsing their forum a lot still seem unable to grasp the role of administrator. He's not there to ensure they've still got a good team after this!
There's a clownish level of stupidity and apparent ignorance of the plight they find themselves in. The American bid appears to me at least to be a unicorn which will never actually come through. I suspect Krasner knows that too but the Latic idiots keep chasing off genuine potential bidders with deeply unpleasant social media attacks. They may in the process be hammering the final nail into their club's coffin.
And from what i've seen of the fans, that would be no great loss to the sporting world.

I thought the training ground had already been sold. And that the stadium wasn't up for sale on its own? Didn't the administrator say that he'd be shot if he agreed to that?

Latics had two mate. The old Christopher Park one, which is still owned by the club and one at Euxton, which was bought from Bolton when they were in trouble. It’s the Euxton site which has been sold already to PNE.
The Americans don’t want to buy the stadium but the administrators said they won’t sell it separately because they’d be shot. Reading about the Latics forum, they’re at the point where they certainly wouldn’t be shot for selling the stadium if it meant the club was bought out and survived and was able to play at the stadium on a rental basis.

Maybe this would be best if the rugby owned the ground, especially if they can pick it up at a reduced rate

To be fair Krasner seems to be changing position more than the Tories. It’s hard to know what’s truthful or not with them, I was under the impression that if there was no buyer by 31st Aug they’d be wound up?

I've not really followed this melodrama closely. But it seems to me that the Americans aren't valuing Latics too highly in any shape or form. If the most they're prepared to part with is 500k, what kind of future owners are they going to be? Unless they're planning to generate some more funds by selling Christopher Park as building land.
Also, who exactly does the Administrator fear is going to shoot him (metaphorically of course)? The Latics fans? When selling the stadium to IL would be one sure way to continue with football at the DW?
I suggest the Admin guy stops reading Latics forums, where the mindless minority have always seemed to outbay everyone else, and gives himself a reality check.
