I voted it, not because I think he is a coaching genius but because I think he should stay. 2 weeks ago nearly everyone was happy with him

| You see a lot of these blow outs in a season but they count for very little in the grand scheme of things.
The CC defeat was more damaging really. Wigan have a good chance of reaching the GF and anything can happen then as we know. Should see the season out with Wane in charge and then take stock.

| If anything SW is too trusting in his players. Smith should be dropped he gets found out under pressure I cringe watching him. Sarg should be moved to full back on a permanent basis because Bowen hasn't worked out.
However the big problem over the last few weeks is the 20 mins mark, up to that point the forwards have mixed it and Wigan have been in contention. After the 20 mins the wheels fall off. Is it not obvious to anybody else that the replacement props and Powell are useless? SW neeeds to stop hoping that they will perform and drop them to Worky or wherever he sends them, but don't send them out to face Leeds

Not in the opinion of, I think, most supporters. Most are aware of, and have voiced concerns about, Wane's shortcomings as a coach. He is 'tactically naive' if we're being generous. My concern is that he's taken us from being a well-drilled, disciplined, ruthless machine to an unstructured, ill-organised bunch of flat track bullies. Putting 60 points on a Hull KR side that would have struggled against a pub team impresses nobody but the delusional. Having said that he's here for the foreseeable as IFL will not get shut, he loves Wane and is a tightwad. For what it's worth I would give the job to Deacon for the rest of the season

| Another worry is that those who say, don't panic, we have a talented young side next season, they're only kids, they'll improve with experience (OK, they may mostly be Saints fans ), aren't reckoning with the likelihood that several of the best of them may not be with us for much longer (Sarginson? Hampshire? Gelling?).

Wrong. I was one them. Give Catalan some credit. They slowed down the PLB and had great line speed and were sometimes in amongst the Wigan line before Wigan had decided to pass! They played with lots of aggression which Wigan couldn't match on the night. The next three weeks will be the best litmus test as to how Wigan will finish this year. I wouldn't be surprised to see us beat Leeds and Saints and then lose away at Hudds. Then again, a betting man would go off form and assume they will lose all three!

| I have said from Day 1 he is not a coach. IMO he was given the job as an "old boy" by IL to make it look like he was going back to the glory days of the late 80's/early 90's and to entice the likes of Edwards back.
Fans of other clubs have just laughed at Wane since he got the job, despite his early success that was, lets be honest, built on what Madge did. They all want Wane to stay as they see him taking the club backwards.
He is a one trick pony

I suggest that we resume this discussion in three weeks time and then see who's head is actually buried in the sand.

| I am still firmly in the Wane In camp.
There's obvious problems when we go away from home, there's no hiding from that. I have no idea how, why or the reasons behind it, but we turn into a team of Wakefield's standards. The performance yesterday was nothing short of embarrassing, and I think it was even more embarrassing in my opinion, because I do believe we're capable of trophies with this squad.
It's very easy to criticise and say "He's piggybacked off Madge", but I'm still reluctant to turn on Wane. A double winning coach, especially in an era of both the big final's being so close to each other, must have something about him. When we play at home, we're displaying what I believe the team is capable of producing on a more regular basis in a couple of years time. Attacking wise at home, it's miles better than anything I remember us producing under Maguire.
Wane has also had his best players constantly being sold on or leaving where I think Wane didn't have a say in the decision, and been given the job of having to replace them. Since he joined in 2012 we've lost:
S. Tomkins (returning), Richards, Carmont, J. Tomkins (returned), Leuluai, Finch, Green, Lima, Mossop (returned).
The quality in those players, especially in the likes of Sam, you'd argue are irreplaceable. Yet, despite the player turnover, we've still been moderately successful.
This squad, if my maths are correct, are the youngest squad on average and that must be encouraging to think of the level they can get to. Wane has done a good job at Wigan, he's won every domestic trophy in his first three seasons as a Head Coach, and with a returning world class full back in Sam Tomkins as well as Bateman, Gelling, Manfredi etc another year maturer, we can get better with Wane as coach of Wigan RL.
He does however, need to calm down with the press conference nonsense, he's basically writing the opposition team talk. He still has a lot to learn, but I believe he's capable of doing so.
So I'm firmly in the Wane In camp for now, but like many have said, if results on the road continue as they are, IL may be left with no choice.

Thanks Tatts you summarised my own thoughts far better than I could myself.
By my nature I am still behind SW as I think he is a better coach than he gets the credit for however, the last displays have been abysmal and if we do not make the top 4 which is entirely possible then IL will definitely give SW the bullet.
Last night I was very negative now I'm just very disappointed.
SW and his back room team have take responsibility and start the process of improving moral and discipline. SOL, Smith, MM, Mossop and Bowen need a rocket up their s and need to lead by example in effort, discipline and doing the simple things right.
IL and Radlinski need to get a grip with SW and stop all this nonsense about referees and knocking the opposition in public.
The opposition now know that if you attack Wigan in centres then tries are inevitable with the present duo. SW and his team need to show us they have the skills and the know how to address this and significantly improve our consistency in attack. I personally don't know how they will do this but hopefully SW does and he still has the desire to complete this task.
I anticipate a defeat against Leeds but expect a much improved performance.

| As a neutral I'd still stick with him unless you had a quality replacement eyed up.
It could help if IL (or anybody) had a word to him about some of the stuff that comes out of his mouth as I'd not see how that helps. If it's to fire up the players then fine, but keep that to the changing rooms and not the media for the opposition to read.
I mean, at home you are still probably the toughest team to beat in the whole competition so that shouldn't be forgotten. The away form is concerning. I think a key factor is the amount of (or lack of) leaders you have on the field apart from SOL who often isn't there. The likes of Green, Leuluai, Richards, Carmont etc are a big loss in that particular aspect.
For me Wane could still be the right man but he needs to have a look at himself and admit that there's a few things he has to alter about his own style and approach to management. We often talk about players growing and maturing into their positions and roles in a team with experience and as time goes by, I think the same applies to coaches.

| We were stuffed by Widnes 2 weeks ago - big deal. Wigan is the team to beat for the SL title this season and I'm not getting lulled into a false sense of security just because you were beaten by Catalans in France. What your club is achieving with home grown talent is great for RL in this country and something that should be possible for us all. Keep faith in the big hairy bloke in charge.

It's still going strong is that one 4 years later and over a hundred. Tbh most of the time when it pops up again after a loss its usually a non-Leeds fan who starts it however you still get a couple of the same people knee-jerking over a couple of defeats. After the run of 3 games without a win you had the usual suspects two weeks ago saying they couldn't see any possible way Leeds would finish top and was worried we might not make the top 4 and that it would be a major shock if we won the GF this year.
Some people (and every club has some fans like this) simply have no patience at all to ride out the stormy times that will inevitably happen. The 2011 season with Leeds is well documented in that thread, I also remember looking on here after we beat you in the final regular league game of 2013 at your place and their was a few Wigan posters then writing off Wigan's chances in the playoffs yet to stormed through to win the GF.

| They beat us 42-0 there last season and we all know what went on to happen.
Such is the competetiveness of SL (bar Wakefield), the team finishing top of the league tends to lose around 8 games (judging by the past few years). That's a fair percentage of games to lose. Gone are the days when you could pummel nearly everyone and only lose a couple of games.
My point is, I HATE that spud headed coach of yours. Married with the natural rivalry between Saints & Wigan, Wane has your team frothing at the mouth. He inspires the young lads who step up into the team to hit lads much bigger & experienced than them. He's a great coach who works really well with the resources he has. He loves Wigan and that trickles down to his players.
The few who want him out are barmy imo.

| The Wigan coaching job is results based as all the coaching jobs are.
For the second season we are out of the C Cup.
We are thrid in the League Table based purely on our home form which is excellent.
Our away form is disastrous. Not won away since last July.
If we don't win any of the next three which are all away from the DW then we have a team who look likely they won't make the top two for a home GF draw.
If we don't turn around the away results then I reckon the results of a second season with a trophy will start IL looking around.
I can't see him risking a third season without a trophy.
If the away results do turn around and the wins start coming then things and personnel will stay as they now are.

| I disagree with the SW out.
I'm consisted a young un, compared to many fans on here, doesn't mean I've not spent my life on the terraces of Central Park/DW Stadium week in week out, so I have an understanding of the passion towards Wigan winning.
SW has developed most of this squad via our youth system and as much as it pains me to say it, we are off the needed standard to win on all 3 accounts, mainly due to the fact we are in a development phase. Our squad is hugely young in alot of the main areas.
But it kills me the way SW chops and changes the squad all the time.
We of course lack in defence in areas, so I'll explain below what squad I'd pick and stand by it for as long as I could.
Bowen - Out and out World Class FB, patchy for us, but can pull the class moment out of nothing.
Charnley
Gildart - Showing potential on loan, thought he'd get a chance whilst Gelling is out)
Tomkins - Bulk that right hand side defence up and proven talent to unleash the pace of Gildart and Charnley.
Lockers - Many will think what the **** in 2nd row, but think Sarge needs that much needed guidance and help in defence at the moment, it's Burg/Sarge who make the breaks with pace on the left, imagine Lockers drawing the opposing 2nd row and centre with the ability to throw that pass at the end.
Sarge
Burgess
Williams - Think he makes a better #9 then Powell, but feel he's the future #6 for years to come.
Smith - Consisted a very young 6/7, will develop over the seaon.
Mossop
Mickey
Crosby
Bateman - Don't think he can be dropped from the starting line up whether Lockers is fit or not, currently showing passion to the club and gives his all.
Subs
Hampshire - In to #6 Williams to #9 whilst Mikey as a breather
Mr T
Sutton - Flower to replace when fully fit (used in #13 with Batemen to 2nd row during games or out and out prop)
Patrick - Clubb to replace when fully fit, Clubb to start instead of Crosby.
Just my 2 pennys worth on the current issues.
