In all honesty she's doing me a favour. Will i really want to watch Hudds/Wire & Cas/Wakey again like last year?
As I say, that was only due to travelling all that way & wanting my money's worth.
They've lost this spectator I'm afraid

| I can imagine I'm one of many who will hopefully be able to make it now it's a bit closer to home. So it's not gained a new audience in Wales... there's no welsh team in superleague anymore so what would be the point?.. I enjoyed the first few trips to Cardiff in the days where I was "wealthy" enough to be able to afford this weekend, the challenge cup weekend, a weekend in France, trips to London etc all in one season, but now I have to pick and choose, and going to Manchester won't really be much of a problem. I don't know why people are so dead set against Manchester. It's a great city Just like Cardiff and Edinburgh, It has bars just like any other city, It's got good enough transport in and out...with the added bonus that you can either stay over just like anywhere else.. but also be close enough to home if that's easier/more affordable. People just seem to be upset that they don't have to travel 200 miles ![Confused icon_confused.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_confused.gif) In all honesty I think people may be slowly giving up on the idea but I can't see the attendances being any worse than Cardiff or Edinburgh. But I do think this is the last chance the concept has, and if it doesn't catch on this year then maybe its about time they gave up.

| One thing it will do is be a good indicator of how popular this event actually is and whether RL supporters have taken to the Magic weekend once and for all.
If the ticket take up is low, this event is dead on its backside.

maybe it'll attract fans like me who couldnt afford to travel hundreds of miles to watch a league game.
i'll definitely be going, and i doubt i'll be alone as a first time magic attendee.
the only ones who wont go are the bandwagoners who see it as a p!ss up event.

| It was my understanding the Magic Weekend was initiated to expand the game, that being the case whats to be gained from making fans drive half an hour to two hours max from their towns to tournament staged in the heartleands of the game?
What image will the game have is this too is a poorly attended tournament?

If we get 30,000 a day at Cardiff, where people have to make a very long journey, then it stands to reason that more will make the relatively short trip to Manchester.

AKA make the RFL some money. If it makes them money, it'll stay! Also the fact that all seven games will be televised (thus its in the new tv deal) tells you it's going to stay for a while yet!

| Quote ="NickyKiss"It'll get the best crowds to date by a way IMO so don't get your thinking on the 2nd point.
As for a waste of time? Everyone's opinions will differ on that score but I'm happy enough. It'll bring in revenue and exposure to the sport that a normal round wouldn't and whilst I backed and attended every magic event a lot of people don't and 'say' that due to the cost of travel and accommodation so there's no excuse on that front anymore.'"
The RFL may announce the best crowd figures; but I would be surprised if there are more in attendance. Obviously that sounds like a contradiction, but I mean that I think many people will turn up just for their teams match and then leave (I know this happened when it was on the road as well, but I think it'll be even more people that will do it now as it'll be so much easier to just go home).
It was far better in Cardiff as well, as not only was it a proper weekend away for many people the city is much more suited to hosting such an event than Manchester in terms of general interest (ask yourself how many times you've been to Manchester vs Cardiff) but also the location of amenities such as pubs and places to eat, hotels in relation to the stadium; in Cardiff they're right on the doorstep, in Manchester, not so much.
Really though it's hardly a big deal to travel to Cardiff, we're a tiny island and no where is really out of reach so people with the excuse that it's too far were just whinging as they more than likely, hardly leave their own borough.

| I went to the one in 2008 and loved it, May bank holiday, sun was shining and had a great weekend. Not been back since tho, was gonna go last year but hotel prices were stupid, add in cost of petrol and it gets very expensive, especially when it was early in Feb. I am happy in a sense it is in Manchester although Cardiff lends itself to the event much much better.
As for the fixtures, it is unfair but you are always going to get more interest and higher attendances with the Derby matches. It didnt affect the league last season and i doubt it will this time. If more emphasis was placed on who finished top then i think the fixtures would be changed (as they were for Murrayfield). Just hope we dont play Saints 65 times again this season1 ![Very Happy icon_biggrin.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_biggrin.gif)

SAT
Catalan Dragons v London Broncos
Huddersfield Giants v Salford City Reds
Hull FC v Hull KR
Warrington Wolves v Widnes Vikings
SUN
Castleford Tigers v Wakefield Wildcats
Bradford Bulls v Leeds Rhinos
St Helens v Wigan Warriors

The Magic Weekend fixtures haven't been announced yet. No-one knows who plays who in those games. Those were just somebody's opinion of what will be picked. We may get a random draw again for the games.

| Has anyone got an idea when the tickets go on general sale for this and how much they're likely to be? I haven't got a season ticket so won't qualify for a discount. Cheers
