| Definitely not a good weekend for the Super Saints, but they managed to go one better than us in one department - by playing in an even worse kit than we did.

| Quote ="ChrisA"I have only seen the highlights due to being on a family holiday, apart from the score what were the positives?'" like wane said, we played well for the first 20 in each half. In these spells we looked far more organized than we have all season. There was shape in attack with passes finding the right men, this is most obvious in the isa and gildart tries. It might just be that leeds were terrible but i think its down to having more of our playmakers fit.
The other big positive was the end to sets. We were consistently putting up bombs that landed yards from the leeds line and had 1 or 2 chasers competing for the ball or tackling the receiver immediately. Hardaker dropped one for an isa try and we scored two more from them in the second half. Both sam and smith were doing the long range kicking with williams getting more involved close to the line.
In the end we completed at about 75-80%, conceded off two poor missed one on ones, and didnt play as well in the last 20 but that was without sam and lockers. Im not getting too excited because leeds have been so bad but there were signs of organization and game management that ive not seen all season and will make us difficult to beat if we keep them up. Really looking forward to the cas game now, it will be a good test of whether we have improved.

Ryan Sutton had a really good game, big metres and should have scored a try too but dropped it with the line begging.

Not for the first time, as someone commented the other day.
I missed the game too, and thus far have only seen the tries, but good to hear there was a bit more organisation in attack. If Williams can get his short kicking game going, and Smith the longer stuff, we;ll be in a much better place.

It was me. Third time it's happened now this season, really needs to concentrate as he's going for the line!

Think Sutton has caught the Tautai bug.
Regarding Williams's short kicking game, he set up Isa's second try with a little grubber through. Phil Clarke mentioned a stat during the game that last season we scored the most tries from kicks, whereas this season we have scored the fewest. Williams being injured for most of the season has been a big factor in this. It was great seeing him running at the line again also, he's got beautiful balance/footwork.

I only caught bits of the game but from what I saw Sutton dropped the ball a couple of times, but having said that it was also noticeable he was taking the ball in much harder than he seems to have done before, which could contribute.
I've been a critic of his and Isa this year but both seemed to have their best games of the season from my limited viewing.

I think that's largely due to inexperience, fair enough at his age - seemed to me he was intended to be dummy runner and wasn't alert enough to see what Williams (I think, or was it Powell?) saw when passing to him instead of missing him out as planned.

| I have liked what I've eeenbof Sutton so far, in the first warrington game he looked good was tackling hard and made decent metres the second game and against hull he looked tired, he will surely have been playing more.minutes than.anticipated which will be affecting performances.

| For me he's a starter with Flower. Actually runs the ball in like a prop making the hard yards scattering players. Think he was second highest tackler as well v Leeds (after Powell)

| Just read the thread and I don't get the criticism of Gildart and Sutton. IMO these are two of the brightest prospects we have and like Budgie before them have that something about them that says they are natural RL players and could go on to great things.
They are both young and seem to be getting criticised as if they were at their peak. To put this in some sort of perspective, Gelling is 25 ands still makes daft mistakes yet often gets away with it with fans and is often referred to (still) as a work in progress yet Gildart is only 19.
I don't think they are the issue at all. It's more senior players who deserve putting under the microscope. For example saying Sam being back takes pressure off Smith. Smith shouldn't need pressure taking off him, he should take it off Williams. Instead because Smith is so static and predictable defenders can mark Williams without worrying about Smith.
I have not seen the Leeds game (was at a Status Quo concert, late birthday present from the wife ) so my comments are general and made because I think people are being a bit harsh on two excellent young players.

| I don't really see it as criticism but more as people recognising their talent but also recognising there's things to work on. Sutton and Gildart are clearly very very good prospects and whilst I can pick out numerous strengths, I can also see weaknesses. They will need to work on these to become the players they can be.
If we compare them to Gelling I think he's worked on some of his weaknesses. He has improved in a lot of ways but again there's room for improvement.

Status Quo is a good comparison for our play at present, same three chords, too predictable but still better than most of the new stuff around.
