| Even though I have continually backed Noble I think it's only right to not get too carried away with Saturday's result. It's been hard for me to defend Noble this year because there is no escaping the fact that the start to this season has been unacceptable and we are already playing catch-up.
I still feel Saints and Leeds playing to their full capabilities are still better than us so I'm still not hopeful of a trophy this year. I still believe Noble is the man to take us forward even though I sometimes disagree with his selections, but unless I'm the coach myself I guess whoever is the coach I'm going to disagree with some of the things they do. For me has laid the foundations in place so I think it only fair he gets the chance to see his hard work come to fruition.
On a personal note, from speaking to him in Oz I have never seen a man so determined to make Wigan great again. Personally I want someone with that passion and determination leading us. Unfortunately I fear too many think this can happen overnight (or in three years) and that is why he won't get his contract renewal and we'll more than likely go back to square one on the manager merry-go-round.
Patience is a virtue which I think we seem to lack as fans.

This is what always comes across from Noble, he really wants to coach this club. That cant be understated in terms of doing the job.

If IL believes Noble is the right man, people need to get behind him, there will be no point bitching about it. I would hope he is the man, but we need to continue with this form consistenly for the rest of the year, to stand a chance of winning something.

i called for noble to be sacked, and still stand by that. he is a good coach, but he's taqken as far as we will go. lets not too excited about winning our last three. celtic, shouldn't even be in super league and are there merely due to politics. Wakefield, de ja vu from last season. with a injury hit side played fantastic rugby and fought for each other, get their stars back and there is a huge imbalance in the team, and saints have looked jaded and out of sorts for weeks, we simply played them at the right time. when we start playing the likes of warrington, hull kr, etc etc and win week in week out i might change my opinion but this isn't going to happen. i would swap noble for justin morgan any dau of the week. any coach could have won the titles he did with that bradford side, now he doesn't have the luxury he has been found out tactically

I hope it doesn't happen but it would be interesting to see everyone back here slating noble and calling for his head next week if we did go out the cup its pathetic

So you wouldn't agree that quite a few - if not more than most - of Wigan's performances under Brian Noble have been less than convincing?
I'd think very carefully before answering that question, because that's the way the chairman needs to see it. Should one or two impressive victories (and so far we're actually only talking one) distract us from the generally very poor shows that we've been treated to for the last few years?

| I for one have never called for Nobles head i would like to think i have looked at the bigger picture.
He has brought us a long way in 3 years and can still Finnish the job and take us to winning GF and CC finals it is not and never has been a quick overnight job it was always going to take 3 to 4 years to turn the club around after so many failed quick fixes.
Trouble is we had it to good for to long and no one could see the long term damage that was being done to the club.
Also lots of fans think its wave a magic wand and it will be right well in the real world that will never work its hard work and commitment that will get us to the top again and we should all let Noble see the job through.

| Although at the game i was far too worse for wear to give a judgement call, but clearly he got something right and credit to him, he deserves all the praise he has recieved and the backing of the board.
If he can generate performances like that or near to that level i will be happy for him to stay at Wigan, but again lets not get carried away it is one good performance off the back or 2 results but poor to average performances.
Its a fantastic thing to turn Saints over in such style and i look forward to watching the game without the benefit of a 2 day drinking session.
Noble must get the credit for this performance just as he must take the fall for the other performances lets hope this finally is the start of something good and not another false dawn. We have seen what the team is capable of now and what most of us on here knew the level we could acheive. Its up to Noble now to continue this which I dearly hope he can.

It is definitely down to Noble now to kick on - and a better opportunity couldn't be asked for in an away cup tie that, while it will doubtless be quite testing, is not impossible for a team at the top of its game.
If we genuinely have turned a corner, and what we saw on Saturday is truly a sign of things to come, then we will beat Wakey and proceed to the quarters. But if it was another of these frustrating one-offs, and normality is due to be restored, then Wakey may put us away convincingly.
If Noble and his boys can break this cycle and take us on a winning run - and there's no physical reason why they can't, because they did Saints good and proper (in the words of IL, in "every aspect of the game"icon_wink.gif - then it'll be much, much harder for the club to go looking for a new head-coach.
Brian's future at Wigan is very much in his own hands.

| The win over Stains was fantastic and there are signs that players like Smith, Phelps and Coley are playing to a much higher standard than at the start of the season, things definitely look on the up. Hopefully now people will also be off Lockers back for a while.
However, the euphoria seems a bit misplaced. The team has been capable of performing in one-off matches for the last couple of years but simply hasn't been able to deliver consistently.
We are still a long way adrift of the top 3 after an absolutely shocking start to the season. IF - and to me its a big IF - we can put a decent winning run together over the next month or so then maybe BN and the team will deserve all plaudits being heaped on them at the moment by some Wigan fans.
At the moment for me they have won back some respect, but they still have a long way to go before I'll be joining in the celebrations. I just hope that before long I'm feeling as positive about this team as many of the people on this thread!

Of course it shouldnt....im struggling to see your point as it appears that you to are of the correct option IMO that nobby should go regardless of beating st helens.....the point i was making originally is far too many on here are too fickle....they wanted noble out the other week, now more than half appear to want him to stop, and that will again change as soon as we suffer another bad defeat which im sure we will at another point this season as nobby is not up to scratch imo.

I don't see any reason not to congratulate Noble on masterminding a good win, despite being doubtful that he's the man to take us forward long term.
What I saw on Saturday still wasn't enough to convince me that Noble should get a new contract. If we keep on playing like that, I will happily change my mind. But I don't think it's hypocritical or pathetic to praise him for winning last Saturday's very important fixture.
