I may be mistaken about this, but I don't think I've noticed anyone giving Hansen a hard time. Quite the opposite in fact. While Hock came in for some stick the other night, Hansen didn't.

Regardless of whether or not he had to make the move for monetary reasons, those who've said he's messed up going to Salford could still be proved right. He's obviously going to earn a lot more money, and good on him for that, but the trade-off may be very little, if anything, in the way of trophies. If he'd gone to Leeds, or Saints or Warrington, he'd still have a promising career. Salford was an odd choice, and I'm not sure there's anything wrong in pointing that out.

The thing is all of the top clubs have pretty similar salary cap wage set ups and structures and Hansen wouldnt get any more at those clubs. Therefore for a player like Hansen at Wigan, who is a good solid player but certainly no superstar, he is probably earning 70k-80k. This would be much the case if he went to a Leeds, Saints or Warrington. Its the clubs that are the next tier down and looking to rise like Salford and the Hull clubs where a player like Hansen is then a bigger player and then gets the big money at that club.

That may be true but he gave up a testimonial to leave so that could have been worth a bit. Also as Salford work under the same salary cap as everyone else and are signing/have signed other players who would fit the bill of increasing their 80K salaries how does that work if they are all doing it?

A team is greater than the sum of its parts and I think we saw that here at Wigan last season. How much a player like Hansen is worth isn't IMO what he looks like playing for another club but what he brought to our team when we won the double. Which was a lot.

I think Hansen working under Wane and Bitcon was worth far more to Wigan last season than Salford now and I think it is unfortunate we didn't value that money-wise for him as I don't believe with who Salford have signed and who they are signing he is their star player salary-wise.

I also think our new signing from Wakefield is an acknowledgment we are missing Hansen in the 2nd row. He seems to be the replacement for Hansen that Clubb didn't turn out to be (who is a prop and looks good there).

Farrell & Bateman are our starting 2nd row, Hansen would of been a sub at best. H was a limited player who was never exceptional in any deptment, for people to still be talking about him leaving is strange and you would have to question their motives.

Hansen probably wouldn't get in the first 13 at Hull, so unlikely he'd earn big bucks here.

In recent years I have stopped disliking Wigan, because I like Wane, I like your style of Rugby and I like how you develop your youngsters. Wigan is a very good club to play for, but my god there's a lot of arrogance on here. I'm sure Harrison Hansen is very comfortable with his decision every time he looks at his bank balance.

A lot if the 'arrogance' is a self defence mechanism. There is a lot of dislike sometimes even hatred of Wigan from other supporters which often results in the 'we are the biggest club in the world' response.

I don't dislike any club just the minority of idiotic fans that all clubs have attached to them.

You don't think Hansen was exceptional in defence then?

Out troubles on the right side in defence prove what a top player Hansen was for us. He's different to guys like Faz and Bateman but in his own way was every bit as good.

He's been a big loss.

Did we let Hanson leave because we weren't prepared to pay a top wage to keep him, the answer is yes. Decent player nothing else, Bateman is far superior and yes Hansen would of been on the bench.



This has to be comment of the year since most of you never go the match, home or away. Arm chair super fans lol
I suppose you are right, when i'm at the match i don't get the replays, adverts, commentary etc

A lot of us must have missed that survey reference the number of posters on here that go to game.

They probably put more miles in per season than any other Wigan fans.

That may be the case but an average player at Wigan can earn star wages elsewhere. The same will happen again and again with the salary cap that is in place. I certainly dont think its a reflection of Hansen or is abilities. I would be fairly certain that Hansen is on way more than Bateman at the moment, does that mean he is a better player?

If he was a better player Wigan would of paid out to keep him, Shaun Wane has said he'd of liked to keep him but wouldn't raise his wages to compete with Salford. We would of kept Liam because he's a far superior player than H.

Anyone wondering about the attitude it's a direct response from cocky replies from armchair superfans who consider themselves masters of the game. A simple question about actually going to the match induced panic in them, i'm sure this forum could roll out at least 10 season tickets if you all group together. Now if these people want to carry on a discussion without the "we're better than you" attitude i'll respond appropriately without laughing in your direction

It doesn't matter who is on what wages really. Whenever we sign anyone who looks a bit average our coaching staff often get more out of them. It's works the other way as well. When players leave sometimes they don't look as good, probably because they left the Wigan environment.

So the point is, what matters is how any player goes [uwhen he plays for Wigan[/u. Does he respond to the environment in a positive way or not? Does he get picked week in, week out when fit? Hansen did both for the best part of 10 years. Anyone slagging him off hasn't got a clue.

Dave you are blind when it come to H anyway, taking that this is the DaveO from that other forum. You've tried using this move to have a go at the club in general since it happened and anytime we lose or it runs close you say H would of made the difference.

He averaged something like 26 games a season over his time here. I think he got half a dozen games in 2004 and was a regular fixture from 2005 on until he left except if he was injured.

His total games for us over that time were 238. Work it out for yourself.

When he has been fit I don't think he was ever been dropped throughout his time here. But regardless of that what you need to do is watch the big games he has played in for Wigan such as last years finals and then you would see his worth.

There a few quality players around in SL and we'd have been far better off in my opinion with him on board as well as Bateman and if we'd have had to pay a high wage for him to keep him, why do you care? Are experience players not worth it?

As it is our best back row is Faz, Bateman (who wasn't supposed to be playing at every opportunity according to Wane but now looks like he will need to) and Lockers. Take any one out and we are weaker.

Clubb isn't up to to it the back row and while I personally have a lot of time for Hughes in the 2nd row and think he will be a good player there one day, he is not as good as H.

It sticks out like a sore thumb we should have kept H IMO and if that cost the club a high wage, so what if he is what the club needs?

I also happen to think had a deal been done earlier in the season we probably would not have had to outbid anyone, never mind Salford as I believe he wanted to stay.
