disagree with a lot of them, you need to have only fullbacks too.

Quote: Ron "No I said NRL players are just far better i.e how Saint George dismantled Wigan with ease after travelling half way across the world.... Carmont being one of your best players, but a second rate Aussie etc etc

Not rocket science.'"

You're starting to show yourself up a bit now. It would help if you knew anything about a) RL, and b) geography before making that silly Carmont comment. St George beat us by 6 points in the WCC. I'd hardly describe that as "dismantling" unless I was desperately grasping at straws. And who scored our two tries that day, you know against the world champions? It wouldn't be our second rate New Zealand-born Samoan "Aussie" would it? He's just rubbish isn't he?
Great game of rugby league. Fantastic atmosphere, Wigan were breathtaking and dominant in all areas for the first 25 minutes, coupled with us making alot of dumb mistakes, then fortunately they brought McIlorum on which helped us back into the game. I thought some of the tries we scored to get us within two we're out of this world stuff. Towards the end we had to force it a little and we had a few things go wrong, i.e Monas kick on the first for King and Solomona going off who was causing havoc. Wigan were clinical in their eventual execution of us. Proud of Wire today and gave us a little glimpse to the future. Silverwood was awful as per, but I expect no less. Tomkins is a world class player and by far the best english player in SL. Wigan are a champion side and would be a worthy winner of taking our title as challenge cup. Good luck over the next month and a bit.
:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_23997.jpg

Not only that, but what a stupid game to pick if he's trying to make out George isn't a world class player. George played very well indeed against St George, giving the St George defence problems all through the game. He looked to be one of the best players on the park.

No no no. There are lots of oustanding talents in many positions of tomkin standard and at the next level coming through in oz every year or are seasoned pro's I could have added more thaiday, yow ye, civonaciva. The point is tomkin is the outstanding talent in SL but the NRL is full of outstanding talent.

Outstanding talent ripping it up against outstanding talent week in week out.

The fullback thing you mention is a good point to discuss. There is still big debate amongst pies about tomkin as a 1 or a 6 he has a lot of development to go in which is his best position, defence, kicking and ball playing! Marshal has played winger, fullback, a fair bit at centre, 6 as well as 7! I didn't even put inglis on the list! His best position is regarded as fullback but there is talk of madge moving him back to 6 where he played a season and a half for the storm but he has played a lot a centre! Thurston is a 7 but is gonna be the origin 6! Boyd plays wing, centre , 6 but has been turned into a fullback but the word is he will be the knights 6. the best outstanding talents are diverse! Tomkin would be another awesome talent amongst many in the NRL with much development to go. In SL he is pretty much the only outstanding young British talent. Some of you pies already have him infront of slater? Who is regarded as the best. Tomkin is awesome but has some way to go.

Quote: Ron "Ok the second rate NRL player, who grew up in NZ but chose to play for Samoa as he wasn't good enough for the NZ team.'"

Ironically he came to Super League the same time as Matt King the player that terrorised sides at International level, SOO even the NRL. Carmont is a much better player in SL than King more than likely for the last 2 years has been the best centre in SL.

As for Tomkins V Slater argument. Its easier to play well in an Australian side than an England side as in all positions the Australina dont have a weakness. Slater will get a lot more space so will be more devestating. I bet any side i the world would love to have either in their side. As most see it Slater is the best atm but Tomkins is younger and the second best in the world atm. Something no other SL player can say.

There are kids and seasoned pro's doing what tomkin does and more every week in the NRL Dugan, Boyd, beal, loche, barba, Bowen, Hoffman. That's just fullbacks doing it in a tougher comp.

In terms of backs I reckon you could put Jonny Lomax and Josh Charnley in that bracket albeit a year or so behind in development and Kyle Eastmond would have been if he had kept his head on playing RL rather than the Union cash. Richie Myler is showing the odd flash of brilliance, but might just be another McGuire style support player. The young hooker at Cas, Daryl Clark also has shown the potential to be the best British hooker since KFC. Richard Owen is getting back to what he looked like being before his injury. Tom Briscoe is an outstanding winger that gets better and better. Ben Jones-Bishop looks a real talent. Jermaine McGillvary has blossomed this season.

In terms of forwards I'd add Lee Mossop and Liam Farrell who again is a year or so behind in development - being outstanding isn't always about flash. Liam Watts looked to be heading in a similar direction before his brush with the law

SL has plenty young players to be proud of, with tons of potential, but they won't be world beaters overnight.

Sam can only beat what is in front of him. Put him in any NRL side, give him a few seasons to adapt and barring injury he'd be a match for any current Aussie player. No disrespect to the names mentioned, but he's the type of instinctive natural talent that only comes around every 10 -15 years - I think its legimate to compare him with Slater when both were at the same stage of their careers (rather than like for like at present), given the additional potential Tomkins has. I just don't buy into this "because they are Aussie and in the NRL they are automatically better", its the same old British inferiority complex that has hampered us for years. We have and have had World Class players over the last twenty years, just not enough to fill a competitive international team.

I'd argue James Roby could say it too, on his form this season. I also wouldn't say there's a "second best" fullback, I'd say it's between Hayne, Dugan and Tomkins who are all about at the same level IMO.

Roby's workrate and durability is second to none in RL and his strength is unreal for his size, but his attacking style is still fairly one dimensional based on dummy half scoots that pad out his stats. When Saints are prevented from a quick PTB, as in our game at Halton, he can be nullified. An excellent player no doubt, but not an instinctive natural talent.

I have no doubt tomkin will be one of the best players in the world for a long time. but I think a bit more of an open minded realistic view is needed.

Why has this muppet been allowed to turn a thread about the try of the season by the best player in SL into a debate about whether he's better than Billy Slater.
