(K)Noble > poor team to mediocrity
Maguire > mediocrity (achieved by above coach) to league leaders
which is greater achievement?

To be fair (and I still think Madge should be a shoe in), they weren't just a poor team, they were the worst in the league by a long, long way.

| Quote: Cruncher "Really?
Does it not put things a little into perspective that the team who've basically won the league in July is almost exactly the same team that Brian Noble struggled to get into the play-offs last year?
Frankly, I'm amazed that Noble isn't hugely embarrassed every time the subject of Wigan comes up.
If he gets coach of the year ahead of Maguire it will be proof positive that not only do we never learn anything in the British game, but that we don't actually want to learn anything. The Aussies will be laughing their stones off at us again, and no wonder.'"
^ This.

He is a real deep thinker with the way he approaches the game, to the smallest detail, and has brought a new level of professionalism with him.'"
Don't forget wane has alot to do with how wigan have played this year

| Quote: Andy Greg "I think it will be a close call between Nobby and Madge. Lets not forget Noble came to Wigan and put all the building blocks into place Madge came in and just put the finishing touches to it. Noble went To Crusaders and cobbled together a team from nothing he has the got that team which were expected to be bottom again by a long way to within touching distance of the playoffs. He is doing at Crusaders what he did at Wigan building strong foundations for the club to kick on from.
Lets not forget the good work Noble did here at Wigan if it was not for him we would not have the training facility we have. And Do you honestly think if Madge had come to the club when Noble did he could have achieved so much in his first year?'"
Exactly my thoughts, people make out as though noble was awful, he got us to three semis in 2 years and the last one of those against saints we should have won really and then got to the grand final etc.
Maguire has come in and goen on from where Noble left off which was a pretty stable club with some fantastic young players, he's doing the same with crusaders which really is an even harder job, i still think he's an absolutely fantastic coach.

Just prooves how low Leeds fans can get - people could have been more seriously hurt than they was yet youd probably still make jokes like that.

| not being funny but look at the sides Crusaders are competing with and how their seasons have been totally dire and ravaged with injuries. Bradford, Quins and Catalans have all had their worst seasons for some time. Wakefield have gone downhill, Cas have been up and down. Nobby has done well to assemble a team that can compete at that level but I truly believe that if anyone thinks maverick players like Sammut in particular are doing what they do because of anything Nobby has taught them on the training pitch then they're crackers. There'd be something wrong if a team full of 2nd and 3rd rate Aussies didn't make the playoffs given the crap being served up by the teams around them.

I think you should also put the Crusaders in the injury ravaged bracket if you want me to list them i will.
The point was they have done very well for a team that was cobbled together in a few weeks and as usual Nobles team is coming good at the end of the season. It does not matter what team he has been in charge of they have always played better at the end of the season.
And if he stays then in 3 to 4 years time they will have a squad of at least 10 home grown welsh players in.
He might not have been able to take Wigan to the next level but we are reaping the rewards of all the good work he did in his time here. The foundations that Noble and I.L. have put in place at Wigan will see us doing well for the next 10 years.

I'm not knocking Crusaders or Nobby believe it or not, well I am but only in the context of a coach of the year thread. The point about injuries is he's been able to add to his squad, I don't mean just by buying players but he can pick players from Scorps if necessary who are playing at a higher level than U20's which most teams have to put up with. His team is peaking as so many others are trying to out do each other for crapness and besides his method is outdated and doesn't work. I'm not getting into the youth development argument, I know how a lot of young players feel about Nobby from his days at Bradford and Wigan but all I'll say is his involvement was limited at both clubs to say the least.

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know

| Obviously I want Madge to win it but I think Noble is the coach of the season by a long way!
He had half a team moving to an unknown place having finished rock bottom the year before and now they look set for getting in the play-offs. Amazing!
Madge has done awesome as well but we had already finished 3rd for 3 years in a row, we just needed the final touches to be a top team.

Well i dont know about Bradford but management which is what a head coach does really is about putting the right person in the right job this he did at Wigan. If you have the right people coaching the younger players you only need to oversee things and give advice to the coaches who are coaching the teams.
I dont think Noble missed many games the youngsters played in unless he was with the main team.

| if the clubs I mentioned were able to start from scratch I doubt they could possibly have done as badly as they have done. Reaching the playoffs this year is like winning a fight against dead people as far as I'm concerned, there's only 4 teams that don't make the playoffs and so many clubs have undeniably had bad seasons its unprecedented.
