| Quote: Steve Ella's Beard "The first season under Lowe was even more pronounced, but you're quite right - the change he's made to essentially the same team that finished 6th over 27 rounds last year is remarkable.
Just hope he gets recognised at the end of the season.'"
It will be an absolute disgrace if he isn't...
Talking about awards.... I have only heard about him getting coach of the month on one occasion this year?? Do they not do it every month?...

| Looks like Waney will still be in charge on Fridayhttps://www.wigantoday.net/sport/wigan-warriors/wane_wants_to_inflict_rhinos_pain_1_928146rl
Quote: "WIGAN are again expected to be in the capable hands of Shaun Wane when they travel over the Pennines for Friday’s clash with Super League champions Leeds.
Warriors head coach Michael Maguire flew home to Australia last week to be with his seriously ill father, and was initially due to return tomorrow.
That is now extremely unlikely to be the case, and assistant coach Wane will remain in charge of the first team until Maguire returns.
“Michael’s father is still ill and he is going to stay in Australia for as long as he needs to,” Wane told the Wigan Evening Post.'"

| For whatever reason I cannot see Wane taking over Maguire. I think Kris Radlinski will be the next head coach with Wane still as a assistant. Dunno why just a feeling I have.

I thought I heard that Kris didn't really fancy coaching.
Wane IMO is nailed on for being our next Head Coach, He coached our under 20's to grand final success and was unbeaten for 18months.. The guy is eager to learn and has a presence about him.
If and when Maguire goes home I think IL will be lynched if Wane isn't given the job. He is MR Wigan.
The way he talks in interviews is inspirational and I am sure he has the same effect when giving team talks and training sessions.

| One of the most interesting things about Maguire's appointment was IL's comment that he wants to start up a kind of 'boot room' at Wigan, where young British coaches are learning the trade the way it was taught in Melbourne. When you think about it, you've already got Wane (a very good coach in his own right anyway), Rads and Deacon as his students. Who knows ... more may follow, but perhaps they have to be of the right calibre.
There have been coaching casualties since Maguire took over, and it makes me wonder if some just weren't cut out to progress to the next level.

I think the highlighted part is why Wane is perfect to be the next Head Coach. You get a sense of honesty coming from him when he talks that makes you believe when he talks about Wigan he means what he says, not just playing up to the camera/reporter.

| The "boot room" situation may take a further twist when it is confirmed Ray Unsworth is leaving. He was with Joe Lydon when they were both at Red Hall and had adjoining offices.
If he does depart then maybe someone like Phil Bailey may get the position.
He is respected by all the younger players and has been a real professional the whole time he has been at the club.
Whilst over here he has been a one club man as well.
Not too sure about the Boot Room having to be all Wiganers.
After all in the original boot room Shankly was a Scot and Paisley a Geordie.
They were both Liverpool through and through as everyone knows!
If it did come off then it would be a good move for Bailey and for Wigan RL.
It would also give stability in the "boot room" in that by now he is so well know and respected throughout the club.

Not a bad idea, Bailey has always conducted himself professionally but he might want a few more years playing before hanging up his boots.

| good idea re bailey. Think I read in one of the early season programmes or his blog that he was asked advice by the young players going onto a duel reg. He is obviously already held in quite a high regard by these players so might be a good addition to the boot room.

What about Dennis Betts for the Ray Unsworth post? It is a very important job in the Wigan set up.
