Problem for Wire will be either to let him go now for a fee or force him to stay when he doesn't want to be there and not get a fee.
Obvious plan would allow him to go now for a fee. That can only happen if Wire can find a capable replacement.
In a way a shame another quality player lost to Super League.
He's 31 this year, so only 3, poss 4 more seasons in him, so i personally dont think a big loss to super league in that sense. We're used to getting aged Ozzies coming over for a pay day, so why not the other way , although he'll be on a decent wedge at Wire as he only signed there to win things and not for the Wigan £££ Williams is a top player. Based off what? He's certainly a top earner - that's for sure. Has he delivered any return on that for Wire?

| Week to week, Williams is a superb player but I always had a bit of a downer on his big game performances for Wigan and I think they've continued for Wire. Every one of Superleagues very best halfbacks in it's history has had a huge final performance or even a few of them but Williams is yet to have one and he's played in loads.

Iv never really known what to make of George Williams. I can say hand on heart I was not disappointed when he decided to sign for Warrington. He's a good player but a little loose at times and a bit too kick happy in his time at Wigan. Also too many times when he was barely noticeable in games and that has probably been the case at Warrington. There were try assists in several finals between 2016 and 2018 for us so he definitely did well for us at times. But I think his most impressive performances by far have been for England. Horrible hit for Warrington though (and SL). Sadly this will happen more and more in the coming years although its probably fair to say the NRL can't be awash with quality halves if theyre having to call on a 31 year old Englishman who ditched his last club mid contract.

In the week to week rounds, I do really rate him and I think he's a far better player now than in his last couple of years with us but I tend to look at how players play in the biggest games and then make an overall judgement. In semis and finals, I've always thought he fails to grip them. I've been having a debate on Total RL about who should start for England and I'd have him in for his kicking game anyway but I'd also have Harry Smith as a nailed on starter because he's at his best when the pressure is on, in the biggest games. Some people are saying he should miss out because he's been ordinary at Huddersfield and Wakey etc but I would much rather look to Vegas, to HKR, to Good Friday and to every final he's ever played in, because in those, he's just a different animal and lives for those occasions.

I would agree wholeheartedly with your selection.

| I'd still like to see some better form from Smith, starting soon. Who was your preferred 6, NK?

| Well to be fair we can’t accuse Wane of an anti-Saints agenda.
Harry Roberston called up for the extended squad. Whilst he won’t get anywhere near the final squad, what a great experience for the lad.

If 13 Saints players were the best in their positions then Wane would pick them, beating the Kangaroos is the Holy Grail for Wane

Waney only has one agenda, winning. The attribute that he is really keen on is defence.

"Williams is a top player."
I keep hearing this from people, and I've yet to work out why.
George is now approaching the tail-end of his career, and aside from having the odd good game and doing the odd good thing, I've yet to see anything that would categorise him alongside Andy Gregory, Shaun Edwards, Sean Long, Alex Murphy etc.
Any one of those players would have turned Warrington, where he's been on massive money, into serious challengers for silverware.
And let's not kid ourselves about his time at Wigan. Yes, we won stuff, but there were many occasions when he frustrated the fans with lacklustre, kick-happy performances when we were screaming for something a lot cleverer.
I wish him no ill. In fact, I quite like the fact that, this time, a veteran Brit will be going to wind down his career in Aus instead of it being the other way round. And I have no doubt he'll get picked for Great Britain for his experience and the fact that he can turn it on when he wants to. I just wish he'd done it more often.
