| Quote DaveO="DaveO"Sinfield is a very good club man but is not a great player.
That is quite important in my view because to transcend club loyalties and earn the votes of fans of other clubs he'd have to be a great player not just for Leeds but for England. He hasn't been the latter.
Fans will put club loyalty aside for a great player but not for a very good club player.
His performances for England have been average at best. Great players rise to the challenge, Sinfield wasn't up to it.
Contrast that with how Lockers goes at International level. He looks even better than when he plays for Wigan. And no I am not saying Lockers should be nominated but merely using him as an example as to why Sinfield simply isn't good enough for a vote.
I don't think it is fans not voting for him shooting RL in the foot either. Voting for someone you genuinely don't think is a great player is hypocritical and if he did win then it would in my view be a hollow victory and one easily questioned.
The wrong player got nominated (Peacock maybe?) but saying that I don't think we have any truly great players in the game at the moment [iplying their trade in SL[/i. If Hanley were playing now I'd say he'd be a shoe for votes from fans from across all clubs but Sinfield? Nope.
I think they should have stopped with nominating Leeds for team for the year.'" Can't disagree with any of this. Lockers, however, will never be up for this award (even if we win the WC next time round), because he doesn't court the press, he's not the sort of media luvvy KS will very likely like to be once he's done with yawnion. Personally, I voted for Rutherford. I'm just glad that the bigoted pik*y (moderators be damned) thug wasn't that near in the end.

Sinfield a media luvvy who courts press? Nothing could be further from the truth.
To be honest I don't think he'd have been nominated had the tennis lot not won the Davis Cup and thus pinched the team award away from Leeds at the last minute before the nominations were announced. Think they did it to give Leeds some recognition for missing out on that award and probably didn't expect him to get that kind of support.

| Sinfiekd certainly doesn't hog the limelight and seems ebarrassed by any tbh.
He's been an outstanding club player. He isn't the sort who's going to rip you apart and score a bagful of trys but he galvanises those around him and is a leader. The nomination for him was really a nomination for the Leeds team because I don't think he's even been their best player this season tbh (that was McGuire IMO) but he's their captain and seems a really good bloke and he's basically been put forward as the face of a side that's achieved so much.
As a league fan first and foremost I had to vote for him. He's never been arrogant or one for goading the opposition. He's played with respect and for that he's got plenty back from opposition fans these past few weeks.
Let's just hope he's the first of a few nominees over the coming years. I very much doubt it but you never know.

That's the truth of it. Full marks to the fans of the likes of Wigan, Hulls, Cas, Wakey, Bulls and others who put rivalries aside. It didn't require class for us loiners to vote but it did you.

Based on your own reasoning you will now have to accept or even agree that Sinfield did transcend club loyalties and won votes cast from across the RL community so proving he is a great player.

You do realise Sinfield is the all time top scorer in England's history? And spare me with the crap about O'Loughlin. Awful player.

It probably won't unless we win at International level. Even in football, cricket and RU guys don't nominated solely on their club performances. Sinfield was a rare set of circumstances in a particular year that saw the RU lot mess up badly and next year will no doubt be dominated by the Olympics. But hopefully it at least leads to not being treated as shabbily as in the past, both in terms of the awards show and their coverage of RL on the whole.

Unfortunately you start well with some facts but then just ruin your post with a really uneducated opinion.

| I don't think whether KS is a 'great' player or not really comes into it. Whatever gloss you out on it, some non-Leeds fans are never going to be able to vote for him.
People can do as they choose, but personally I have no prob in voting for him, and did. I have never been his biggest fan as a player, but as a man and as an ambassador for our sport I see much to commend in him.

| Chuffed for him, a very clever player above anything else and a class act off the field. I would never have thought an RL player would be able to garner a quarter of a million votes.

| For me, the best recognition League received at SPOTY was when Danny Jones wlfe, Lizzie, sang for the tribute to the sports people who died in 2015. As in the cup final truly inspiring!
