I read a piece with Wane yesterday saying he'll get Joel Tomkins and Micky Mac more involved with the coaching side of things now to add to Lockers and Bowen who already do bits. He also stated we may not bother replacing Deacon.

I can't agree with that strategy tbh. Those guys need to concentrate on playing and a club the size of Wigan needs specialist coaches.

In the cap era coaches and facilities are the two areas a club can really invest in to gain a competitive edge. Why we'd not maximise this is beyond me? You only need to look at the NRL to see the number of coaches each club runs with, to understand what a 'proper setup' looks like.

I just don't get Wane and his methods. For me he's quickly turning into another Milward i.e another big mouth with an even bigger ego who at the heart of it is a crap coach. Another day passes and we move another step away from all the good work/foundations Madge put in place.

I'd love to see how those fans who worship the ground Wane walks on justify this.

Conversely at Leeds, they have one coach - McDermott - not even an assistant. Seems to work ok for them.

And at Warrington, their assistant has been getting blamed for most defeats...

Whilst at Brisbane they have three. Two of the three have previous/current head coach experience as well.

Seeing that they they are sitting top of the hardest rugby comp in the world and are coached by the grand master of RL coaches I'm inclined to take their way as best practice.

We should be looking at this for next season imo. Highly experienced head coach with 2-3 assistants.

John Winder is already assistant coach at Wigan, so in reality we have one for the rest of the season.

Isn't Winder head of youth? That's what his LinkedIn says anyway.

I think Matty Peet may have stepped in to that role now.

The obvious reason why no assistant has been appointed is that SW won't be here next year unless by some miracle we win the GF therefore, there is no way IL will let SW appoint someone and then have to pay him off if a new guy comes in with his own assistant.

But it seems like most of those are inside our own 10...

And most of those are probably Gelling heart in your mouth offloads..

He's 7th in the league for offloads. Joel is 3rd. Cuthbertson at Leeds has more than twice as many as anyone else, which is completely insane.
