Agree totally with that.

And atrocious at others. Didn't he put 2 into touch on the full? He scored a decent try, I'll give him that, but he also made one of the worst 2-on-1 decisions I've ever seen.

| We played like a house on fire for the first 20mins but didn't get enough points on the board. I have to credit saints for their defence in that period though. It was a lesson in hanging in and being patient and eventually they got their rewards.
I'll be cheering for Saints next week. They're a good club and im happy to admit the better side won tonight. I think the world of Gaskell. People rave about Lomax and he's very good but this lad is an alround and natural half. He will be a cracker in time.
We've had a great season, we've won a trophy and I'm content tonight.

Dropping a troll post in amongst all the praise of Saints from Wigan fans? Classy it ain't.

| On reflection we wouldn't have won the GF. Totally out of gas and unable to maintain a Grand Final winning intensity.
Well done Saints (and Leeds)
A cracking season which has had a Challenge Cup win and a second place finish by a single point.
Good luck to both teams in the final on Saturday.........................I'm off to Barbados on Monday

Watch it again and tell me it was a bad choice, credit has to go to Tomkins for putting him off the pass to Moore by not comiting to Gaskel to early,if he had of thrown the pass to Moore then i think Tomkins would of been putting the ball down under the sticks.
Yes he made som bad kicks, yes he took the ball into contact on the 4th to often for my liking but to my mind Tompkins showed how good he is by not letting him pass ( i cant remember what game it was but Wellens did similar early in the season )

Precisely. Tomkins shepherds him perfectly while other defenders (Pat?) got back and covered the supporting runners (Wellens?). If there's a cardinal sin in RL it's overcommitting in defence, Sam handled that break perfectly by reducing Gaskell's options and angles without committing himself, forcing Gaskell to make the decisions.

Don't get me wrong Tomkins forced him into that bad decision so credit to him, but a bad decision it was nonetheless. A more experienced player would have drawn the fullback to at least give the pass a chance but Gaskell was too indecisive and by the time he had to make the decision he'd blown it and Tomkins had forced his hand.

| new centre to let joel play his normal position, sam to replace deacon and richards to fullback, a new winger or give darrel/roberts a second chance + an aussie prop would be nice to replace coley and help our forwards to develop fully. They are good and mossop was missed alot but i think Lima is too much Mr nice guy and not enough aggression for me...people QQ over his tackles but personally think they are soft.. his work rate is not questionable, he just needs to be more aggressive in the tackle.

| The quality this season been poor. No issue wit final but does anybody in their right mind think that a team that finishes 5th or below is the CHAMPIONS.
I am a Wigan fan but Warrington were top of the league so overall were the CHAMPIONS.
However doesn't this help Sky with their what a wonderful league we have??????
We (the standard of RL generally) has had a really poor season with lots of bad matches and next week will crown a team who couldn't hack the proper season but can win 3 matches ( in the case of Saints) to be Champions. If they win and I actually tipped them and the final two yonks ago great but as a person/player is this right??????
This is all done for money but next week in my view is something that makes our game look what it is to others (a gimmic).

| On reflection - we've not been good enough for most of the season. We've ground out a lot of ugly wins, in with a few amazing performances and a couple of duff games.
I think credit has to go to other teams in part - they figured out that to repeatedly attack the same players in ruck defence stifles our defensive style, to attack Deacon and Joel's side all game will come off eventually, and how to spread and slide their defensive line to counter our previously unbeatable wide sweeping moves with the dummy runners that got us so many tries last year. I also think the new RFL regulations at the start of the season meant we couldn't use the dominating tactics that were so successful last year,
We've missed Fielden and Mossop, and Gleeson massively. When Madge's system is being stifled we seem devoid of ideas, and Tommy and Sam aside we seem to have lost some of our raw RL instinct that other teams still have. Joel has done well but isn't a natural centre (I'd like to see Charnley move in there). Farrell and Tuson are very good but we've enough workhorse forwards already. Hoffman, Pat, Tommy, Lockers, George, Sam and Josh have been my players of the year.
Not actually that disappointed tonight. My wallet certainly isn't. A good season and a CC win is a bonus.
Thank you Madge.

No. He put one into touch. The other was Lomax. They are two young guys in their first full season at first grade. Gaskell is a year younger than Lomax and a year behind in his first grade experience. There were some nerves in our young players in that match, especially in the first half. Given that he had only played one full match at first grade prior to this year, I think he has done incredibly well.
PS: Roby has put kicks into touch on more than one occasion this season. Is he atrocious too?
