| Regarding Roberts, if you got a programme, have you read the question by Jacob Cunningham on page 31??
for those who didn't or have not,
Q - What is your favourite position,
A - "Its good now with Madge here, because I can go inside looking for the ball, and that's what I like. I'm not just stuck to being on the wing, it doesn't keep me one-dimensional"
The above is just one sentence from the answer given but I think it says allot.

| Quote: jonh "I will make another prediction regarding Feka, the lad will have a major say in how Wigan go in the playoffs and will be a key player in the Grand Final.'"
I could not agree more at the moment he is struggling with his conditioning with loosing to much weight to quickly but he will get better and the ground is getting firmer he should be back to his best soon.

20333_1393344959.gif Current thoughts - Mago out or get running up them plantations, get fit or get rid.
Maybe a back up halfback, someone with a bit of experience on a short term deal.
Big tall strong running second rower, like a McMeekin or Sironen type back rower.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_20333.gif |

| Riddell had a good game, he was playing like he meant it, like he wanted to win and I haven't seen him do that since he signed , well done pig!
Fielden has been great this season finally getting back the form he was in when we signed him and Roberts speaks for himself, I don't agree with the Coley comment I thought he played well last night, not as good as the last 2 weeks mind but he did play well, I can't believe how much Coley and Fielden have improved!

| Talking about players who have improved what about Daz Goulding? I thought his days at Wigan were numbered. Last season when he got a chance he looked poor. The way he took his first try last night was awesome. He still has a lot of improvement left in him especially in defence. He has played well for the last few weeks and has not looked out of place.
With regards to Fielden, Roberts and Riddell they have all improved. Big Stu has played well all season. He got owned once last night when he got smashed by Manu (i think) and responded perfectly. He got up and got on with it. He would not have done this for the last couple of years. He is playing with confidence and he looks like he is enjoying his rugby again.
I am happy with Riddell and think we look far better with him on the pitch. He is twice the player (and I don’t mean in size) that Higham is. His distribution of the ball is better; he took on O’Mealy and won as he smashed him every time he had the ball.
Roberts is a new player. He looks like he has confidence in his ability and looks dangerous every time he has the ball. Both Roberts and Fielden are playing like they mean it and not just going through the motions.
Going a little off topic it’s not just the players’ attitudes that have changed. Last season the fans would have been buzzing about that win. I came off disappointed that we let in the soft tries at the end of the game.

| I dont agree with the Coley comment either. He is one of our most consistent performers now and solid as a rock when it comes to tackling. Last night he realised that Long was possibley going to run him ragged so he legally decided to take him out the game . Very skilful for a prop!! Long never really got back into his stride after a couple of Coley tackles.
Your right in that Coley has had better games, however he was far from poor. IMO he is a real unsung hero.
Fielden was great, as were all the pack considering the Hull pack are one of the toughest in the league. Lets not knock anyone of our pack please.

I thought Coley looked a little sluggish with the ball last night but his defence was very solid.
I'm not knocking him and he has been superb this season but I just thought he fell a little short of his best last night. I've always been a Coley backer in all his time with us but thats just my honest opinion on last night.
As for Fielden I thought he was outstanding. I said on the Hull board I don't know if it was the sight of his old Test match sparring partners in O'Meely and Fitzgibbon but he stepped his form up another level last night.
The pack as a whole is playing very well and I actually think it can get quite abit better.

| I agree he looked a bit slow when running it in although sometimes I think pace can look quite deceptive when a person has a long stride as opposed to some one like O'Carrol who always apprears to run full belt. Take Richards for example, there are times when he looks like he is strolling!!
That said I agree with your point, Coley needs to run a bit harder (without dropping it!) rather than running up slow then trying to push in the tackle.
Perhaps he needs a rest?the rotation system has got the best out of the likes of O'Carrol and Prescott.

Coley will never be a Paleaaesina in terms of charging the ball in but i thought he ran with a little less vigour last night then he has been doing in the first 5 games so far this year. Am I right in recalling that you said earlier this week you'd heard he was due a rest because of a Sternum injury? If thats the case then maybe he was feeling it a touch last night in he'll get a week off next week against Cas.
I'm a big Coley fan and hope we sign him on another one year deal at the end of this season. The same goes for Coley and if we can do that and bring another really top quality prop in like Luke Bailey or Josh Perry we'll have a fearsome pack. The continued improvment of guys like Prescott, Mossop and O'Carroll is hugely pleasing aswell.

| Yes my insider at the camp said Coley's having injections in his sternum before and during the game due to a knock he got at the wire game. A rest might benefit him, looking at his stats and the fact he is no spring chicken I bet he's buggered!
Totally agress he is a different sort of player than Feka and we will never see those runs that Feka does. I think Prescott and Coley are very similar , real workhorses and every team needs them.
I would hate to think that Leneghan and co will release any of our props at the end of the season (not so sure about Feka yet but too early to decide). Do you remember when we got rid of O'Connor and Cassidy etc at the end of one season, it really unsettled the team. I would like fielden to be offered 2 years (on sensible wages) and Coley 1 year to help us out in a transitional period when we bring in the new "enforcer" and players like Mossop and Prescott step up .

I suppose we shouldn't forget Ben Davies in any equation of our prop make up over the next couple of years. I read he's very good and when i've seen him he looks a very tough lad. It's great that lads like O'Carroll, Prescott, Mossop and Davies have 2 blokes like Fielden and Coley to play and especially train with. By all accounts Fielden is one of the most porfessional trainers in world rugby league and for these lads to see that day in day out can only do them good.
I love the attitude of our younger guys that have come through over the last couple of seasons. They all look level headed and hard working and don't have the old charlie big potato's mentality of some of our last real bunch of young guys that came through(guys like Dave Allen and Chris Ashton spring to mind as super talented big heads).
As for the weekend i'd rest Coley at Cas if he is struggling. Theres bigger games coming up with all due respect to Cas and we don't want to make his injury any worse.

The above speaks volumes! He also says he got in a good pre-season and did some boxing. It's there in black and white now. Roberts acknowledges Madge for his improvement this season.
Stuart Fielden is a totally different player to the one last season. He seems so hungry for the ball now and isn't get dominated in the tackle. He's been our best prop forward over the last six games IMO.
Mark Riddell looked like a player who had been told to run with the ball more from dummy half. It is what he was famous for in the NRL and he has never really done this consistently whilst at Wigan. He had a much better game to the one at Bradford.
