| Quote: W!64N_ENTHUSI45T "Iv never called for Noble to go but I have wondered at times if hes the right person but after that performance he proved that what he's been saying about all the attacking plays in training are true. We looked outstanding.
I think Noble is actually getting the potential out of OLoughlin, he looked like a real Loose Forward against Saints, Kicking the ball, passing, running. And it wasnt a one off, hes been very good in that way for a good few games now and improving each time.
I kind of laughed at what Phil Clarke said on the commentry, that Martin Gleeson has made a huge difference to the team, even Phil himself said one person cant make a team but since he's joined we look like a far more attacking team.
Best of all I think finally we do have a balanced team with no star "goto" player like Barrett, Im sure this must help in bringing everyone together.
If the Saints game was a sign of things to come then Noble deserves to stay.'"
Spot on, excellent post.
IF we find some stability, there is no reason why we can't kick on and move up the table. The next two weeks are massive, if we get two wins from two this week then we may well have turned a corner, however I'm not getting carried away yet

IN YOUR OPINION
This year is his team, we are still in the cup and the upturn in league form has come at a good time to make progress.
So clearly you cannot make your statement as if it is fact, when it is merely opinion.

Not a good enough coach? Where do you get such utter nonsense from. So despite him being a proven trophy winning coach and one of the most sucsessful coaches in SL you still think he is not good enough? Ive had this argument loads of times. Brian Noble did not win things at Bradford by pure luck or by any other stupid theory. Just what exactly makes you think he is not a good enough coach?

| Quote: AJ "The difference Gleeson has made is he makes us dangerous down 2 sides of the field. We no longer simpily go to Carmont/Hock.
Lockers is benefitting from having a skillful centre on that side, and it means both our wingers have the chance of quality ball.
Phelps also has to take a helluva lot of credit - his joining the line offers us plenty extra options that we see teams like Leeds benefit from on countless occasions.
Noble has changed the style this year without a doubt and the addition of Gleeson to the side and a natural fullback on the side have seen many of the options and tactics becoming a lot more achievable.'"
Yep, exactly, I think if we do well this season and continue with this form then Phelps Smith and Gleeson deserve bonus' because they might end up being the ones who earn Noble a new contract. No doubt with the way these 3 have added something different has made a difference to the team as a whole.

| Ahhhh the fickle wigan fans!! Never let you down. Yes you are all right it is in my opinion, but i beleive my opinion will be proven to be right when noble fails to lead us to a final again this season.
I wonder how many of you would be back on here calling for nobles head IF we lost to wakefield in the cup next week!! Sincerley hope we dont lose but it sure as hell would be interesting to see the response. The noble out threads would be well and truely resurrected!!
Step out of yourselfs and look how pathetic we are starting to look as 'blow with the wind' fans. each week, nobby out then nobby stay, phelps out...phelps stay. whos next?
We're very slowly turning into wire fans!

I think the other point worth making re: the bold is that the so-called untouchables, Leeds and Saints, are now both losing matches and don't look anything like the sides they were cracked up to be. A good run now could really get us back into contention come September!
N.B. Yes, I fully realise we are a long way off a 'good run' yet, but if we can maintain the form we have shown over the last 3 weeks then it's certainly looking good.

I think you aren't giving credit where it's due! Many fans have been able to keep a perspective regarding Noble. For myself, I have questioned certain things (notably the 3 steps and hold defense) but have also 'rubbished' the claims that he was 'lucky' for 5 seasons at Bradford!
My main area of concern was whether he could take us forward in attack as his gameplan has always seemed to be based on similar tactics and we have seen little evidence during his tenure to suggest he could do otherwise. However, recent performances have dispelled this myth good and proper. Whatever else happens this season he has shown that his teams CAN play adventurous, free-flowing rugby. He has stated in the past that he didn't have the personel/the players weren't carrying out his direction when on the field and this is being shown to be true. They are looking like the best attacking side in SL at the moment!
You're confusing 'fickle' with the ability to realise that an opinion is just that, and can be equally wrong or right. I, and other posters, are not so arrogant as to think that once we have expressed an opinion on something, that's it...it can never change and it HAS to be right! For my own part, I am happy that Nobby has shown that perhaps I was wrong to doubt his ability to coach free-flowing attacking rugby of the sort I want to see....long may it continue!

| Wasnt there a tread a few weeks ago that showed we have some of the top stats in most categories but sadly also in Errors and Missed Tackles? Anyone think that against Saints we showed that those stats are true but at the same time managed to get rid of the negative ones?

| The title of this thread "Noble, I don't want to leave" is telling.
I can't see Noble saying this to a journo if he felt there was any chance of him going.
Noble was appointed by Mo and DW, his salary will reflect that, I would imagine. There won't be many of us would expect Ian Lenagan to match the salary Noble is currently on for his next deal.
It may well be that Noble and Lenagan are trying to thrash out a deal with differences between them both in term of money and years.
As far as the team goes, Noble seems now to know his preferred squad.
Phelps is his fourth full back this year with Mathers starting there and then Roberts and Richards. Gleeson is a massive signing for us and has cleared the right centre problem, Goulding and Bailey didn't get anything out of the 3 shirt in the last 3 years. Gleeson will!
Smith is now hitting form and looks real class, TL starting 7 then to 9 is a winner.
Back up in the backs with Ainscough must be the very best of problems for the coach.
He now needs to sort out the forwards. We still need two props or one plus a prop/2nd row.
Overall and bearing in mind the mess we were in when he arrivedNoble has done en excellent job here, I for one would be very pleased if he stayed.
Wigan are not Noble's Bradford, we are not boring and have long gone from five drives and a kick. Unlike Bradford, we have more than a plan A.

I believe the might be some truth in when some people say Noble cant build a squad of his own, or atleast that might have had some truth at one point.
I think having to start from scratch with Wigan and build from the bottom up could have actually added a new dimension to his coaching. Starting from the roots could have shown him new ways of playing where attack is more flowing and creative than his tried and tested forward driving that he had at bradford. This could also have some relation to the Win/Loss ratios he has experienced with us as he comes to terms with the good and bad of new tactics and learns from experience, some things havent worked but others (like seen Saturday) have paid off greatly.
I feel this idea might have some weight behind it with his comments that his best coaching has been during his time at Wigan, while not the best in terms of results, it has possibly been a new stage in his coaching career and another step up the ladder that he didnt have to make with a pre made Bradford team and a selected GB team.

Bradford under Noble were not boring. They were awesome.
There's a difference.
