I was wondering that, too.

Me too, and Joel deserved the sin binning.
Ganson is a top referee (awaits the flak) as you know what your going to get with him - if you chat back your going for 10 everytime - I remember he sent Sam for 10 mins last year with about 3 mins to go at home to someone like Quins.
Its decisions like this were we need to keep our game above football on respect to the referee.

It doesn't matter what was said IMO.
It's a game where tempers occasionally flair.
Joel obviously had cause 2 be angry. What's wrong with him saying his peace?
Gansons ego is the only thing which I've got an issue with. I've got no problems with the refs being hounded like they are in football because at the end of the day I have zero respect for them.

Why do we feel the need 2 build refs up into something they aren't?
Ateotd their only human and will make mistakes. Why is it so bad for players 2 point these out. It's almost like it's ok for them 2 make mistakes. I certainly don't go 2 games 2 watch the Steve Ganson show or pay good money for him 2 make the wrong calls.
We give refs far 2 much credit and respect & the sooner we move 2 an NFL type system where you can challenge thief calls the better. It really is time limit the refs influence on a game.

Joel had no cause to be angry. He'd had the ball stolen and the penalty given for his side! Instead he decided to give the referee a mouth full and paid the penalty (pardon the pun). What about that is so hard to understand? Oh and take into account the penalties before hand given for dissent...

Correct.
I'm loathed to use football as a comparison but look at the way football players speak to officials now. This wasn't the case 30 years ago. It needs to be stamped on fast. The fact that players were warned throughout the half and then Joel does it when we've got the penalty is just dumb. MM will have bollocked him at halftime and rightly so.
It's creeping into the game more and more. Wellens, Eastmond, Maguire, Smith, Sam, Joel, Hudson, Briers.... they all do it and we moan about it when it's a Saints player. I watch my lad playing both rugby and football and the difference is there at under 7s. the way officials are treated at football matches by the parents can be disgusting at times yet at the rugby some people, the ones who have played, always address the referee as sir.

| Joel had been having a pretty poor game up to that point, with him feeling that a few decisions may have gone against him so i'm guessing that he was a bit frustrated - but that's no reason for dissent - hw knows what Ganson is like and he needs to keep that part of his game in check.
I also seem to remember Ganson having to have a few words with both tomkins brothers in the past - mainly about dissent, so possibly there is some history between them too.............

| apparently the RFL issued warnings to all clubs last week that refs would be tightening up on dissent. If I am right on the televised matches over the weekend there were a couple of penalties for this. Monas at Warrington and someone during the Hull KR/Huddersfield game.

Agreed.
The respect that's usually shown to the officials by the players has always been exemplary in the past and we should go back to it. As a fan, there's nothing that annoys me more than when we give away penalties and easy yards because of people mouthing off to the ref.
We do have a couple of players who are too quick to talk back to the ref, but Ganson's way of dealing with it is spot on for me, players should learn pretty quickly that he's brave enough to send them off if they step out of line.

| Ganson is the only Ref in the league who actually has the b*lls to use cards, or even get respect for himself. At the end of the day, the Referee will never change his mind unless something seperate happens (i.e. dissent) and then you're in trouble.
The ref needs to be respected.

It doesn't matter what he said? There's one thing questioning the decision (which is illegal anyway - unless it's the captain) and saying something offensive to the referee. Joel's frustrations probably stemmed from his own performance and it is the referees job to put his toys back in the pram.
I assume that you're on a wind up, if not then I can only hope that you're in the minority.

| All these comments are relevant - getting back to my original post, though, do you think Ganson will be consistent the next time he refs a Saints game. Will he sin-bin a Saints player ( KFC , James Graham?) for dissent? Or will they have no cause for dissent ....?!
The proof of the pudding ........!

I don't think SL give Gansen Saints games any more. I know he's not reffed for a while due to injury but I can't remember the last time he was in charge of a game Saints were involved in. To answer your question though I think he probably would send a Saints player to the sin bin should it be required. Refs get monitored and rated at every game these days and they are mic'd up so any dissent from on the field will be heard and recorded. Any percieved deliberate bias from a referee would be picked up
