| Then again thinking about my previous post, why should we worry about them so much. Keep Richards up against Riley and he will have a field day!!!

I'm not saying it's ideal having to move him to fullback for a few weeks but it's going to have to be done I think. We simply can't go into this game with a debutant at fullback. It's too important a position imo and one you can be totally exposed in.
We've got 2 serious options imo-
One is to play Roberts at fullback and bring Pryce in on the right wing
or
Move Richards to fullback and bring Pryce, Ainscough or Goulding in on the left wing. We could play any of the 3 on that side because they won't have to face the same arial threat from Riley that they would from King.'"
It can also be a game in which young players really make a name for themselves and show what they can do on the big stage. Ainscough got his chance and did the same, as did Sam Tomkins. All these players have to be given a chance at some point. Just because it is Warrington shouldn't make too much difference IMO. Every Super League game will be tough for anyone making their debut, that's just the way it is.
Playing Roberts at fullback could be an option, but playing Pryce in the wing IMO would leave him just as exposed as Ainscough. Ainscough doesn't have the height and Pryce doesn't have the mobility to leap for a high ball.
Your other option sounds like a Brian Noble ploy. Musical chairs because you fear playing a young lad. Take a chance, bite the bullet and give him a go I say. Leave Roberts and Richards on the wings where they have been the most dangerous and give our only other specialist fullback a go.

So this implies then that we didn't miss Phelps as much as we may have thought. I doubt he would have scored that try Roberts scored right at the end. He wouldn't have had the pace.

Not really, he just brings different types of problems to defences.
Who's to say that Phelps wouldn't have created more tries for toehr players than what Roberts did in the 2nd half, even if he hadn't scored that last try?
If you don't like Phelps then fair enough, but don't try & Put words in somebody elses mouth?

| Thus far Phelps' creativity from 1 has been superb, but i do think Roberts can also fill this void.
Roberts can pass a ball very well and can pick a line to attack.
The injury to Phelps is unfortunate, he has undoubtedly played very well thus far, but if we cope without him and continue to cause a threat from the back 3 without him, his position for 2011 is under threat because of his contract and quota status.

Agree, but, in an ideal world this weekend would you have gone with
1/Phelps
2/Roberts
3/Richards
Or
1/Roberts
2/ "Insert Name i.e Ainscough/Goulding/Pryce"
3/Richards
?

No fear in playing a young lad at all because at the end of the day I want to see a young guy selected in Karl Pryce. In real terms whats he got in terms of first team rugbyleague experience behind him? 2 seasons and about 5 games. We've got guys like Joel Tomkins and Prescott who i'd still class as youngsters who've got more experience then that.
I'd also be happy enough to see Ainscough selected but that would have to be on the left side with Richards moving to fullback because we couldn't expose the lad against King(do that and if anything goes slightly wrong there'll be people queueing up on here to say 'i told you so' about his failings).
I just fear throwing Vievers in at the deep end could cause more harm then good.

Phelps
Roberts
Richards
But with the depth we have now it is up to whoever comes in to make themselves indispensable.
I have been hugely impressed with Phelps this year, but i think our new coach has brought in an extra dimension from our fullback play, it will be interesting to see if whoever plays there can continue this new more attacking NRL style that in truth we have not seen very much of in SL.

I honestly don't see how his place is under threat given his form and what he brings to the table. I appreciate he's quota and OOC end of the year but we already have 1 quota space available with Bailey likely to go at the end of the year.

If Phelps form holds up as it has since he moved into the fullback position he's worth a long term deal quota or no quota spot. He's been getting better and better and it's just a shame his progress will be halted by this injury.

I've posted it before but the way we are using our FB this season seems to be a major part of all our attacking plans. If we don't bring someone in to replace Phelps who can link up in the attack and give a killer pass then we'll have to reorganise our whole attacking strategy. That’s why it has to be Roberts at FB and not Pat as I don’t think Pat has the rugby brain for it.

Yeah I agree with that. Roberts does have an eye for a pass, not of the quality of Phelps but he's definitely our best option given as you say how our fullback is a key part of our attacking structure.
