Slightly better than Wire but way behind Leeds and Saints during the SL era:
[urlhttp://wigan.rlfans.com/fusion_pages/index.php?page_id=259[/url
The FACTS seem to show different. We've got 3 SL titles compared to 6 for Leeds and 5 for Saints. Wire on the other hand have none. If by your logic 3 titles compared to none is 'slightly better' then how can 3 vs 5/6 be 'way ahead'?
Your are right Wane looks like an excellent coach with 1 away win in 10 months. His record of taking a dominant SL side that didn't loose away in the league for 17 games straight under Maguire is coaching genius.'"
Maguire brought half the Melbourne team with him. Didn't have a squad of academy players.
Oh and didn't he leave the ´ biggest´ club in rugby for bigger and better things?
I should study more. Your not behind wire in grand final wins. Have they won more challenge cups in the modern era than Wigan?
6-3 would be........double the amount ie twice as many, twice as far....way ahead.

| As an FC fan, still not convinced former prop forwards make the best coaches ![Wink icon_wink.gif](//www.rlfans.com/images/smilies//icon_wink.gif)
Wane was lucky to inherit the strong foundation put in place by MM.
It would have been hard for any coach to fail with what he was left with.
Now, after a few years, his true influence is being felt.
Trouble is, if you get rid of him won't Deacon just take over?. I always thought that was your owners long term plan.
Can't you try and poach Radford off us?

| Coaches like SW have a limited shelf-life. Shouting and swearing will only motivate players for so long before the influence starts to wear off. I'm not saying that's all SW has in his locker, but he seems to sit in the motivational coach camp, rather than the technical guru camp.

We've had years of coaches telling us that success would come once they had "their team"
My argument is that MM hardly signed anyone for you and yet turned you into champions.

I could only remember them. There was another Melbourne player.
The point which you clearly are deliberately avoiding is Maguire had a far far far better squad.
Stick with Wane he's building a seriously good team out of your academy. Which he's had a lot of input in.
You've lost 2 games grow up all of you. Before that you didn't concede a point in 160 mins.

| I'm not ready to join the Wane out brigade yet - we've played some of our best rugby in a long time under his coaching. However he needs to keep his mouth firmly shut and stop giving the opposition team talk for them. He's also got three games to sort out the appalling away performances that are going to kill the season unless something changes. Three poor defeats at Newcastle v Leeds, at Huddersfield and Stains and his position will be untenable.

Did MM inherit a great team at Souths as well then?
Bit of a coincidence he's gone back to the NRL and done exactly what he did here.

Challenge Cup wins is 3 each with us and Wire. So will you admit we are way ahead of them them?
Also apart from you who mentioned the biggest club in the world? I actually said we aren't the best side in SL

It was a long shot you'd win anything this season with your squad compared to leeds saints and Catalan and given their age.
Judge them next season. They'll start to kick on then.
A new coach would destroy these kids and bring in a lot of dross players.
You have Tomkins to add next year. He seems happy playing for Wane.

Spot on.
I'm a SW fan but his pre match interviews are tedious, repetitive and are not doing SW or the team any favours.
He may have lost the players if he has then his time will be limited.
Our game plan demands good centre play but at the moment we have none therefore, our attack is stop start and our passing abysmal.
I hope he can turn it around but this needs more than wingers working hard and the team "playing tough" this needs the team and playing style stripping down to basics and building back up again.
Saints got battered there last year and turned it around hopefully we can repeat that but personally I doubt it. Hope I wrong

Only joined the debate as I think you need a bit of perspective 're your current coach.
Some of you do. You clearly don't.
Trolls don't praise opposition teams. As I keep repeating look around the league. You have a generation much like Leeds did 10 years ago.

Pretty much what I said here
Quote ="MattyB"With the players we have I don't think we're a million miles away from having a successful team. We have a young team that will no doubt only get better as they gain more experience.
I don't think we are good enough to win it this year( if we do it will be a shock IMO).
We have Sam Tomkins to come back next season which will give us more attacking options, I think we need a couple of old heads 2 x Craig Smith types, beef that pack up.
I'm not into this 15 Brits (of which 12 are Wiganers) first team, we need experience to help these young lads reach their potential.'"

Without going too much into it, no.
Wire - Challenge Cups 3, SL - 0
Wigan - Challenge Cups 3, SL - 3
Way ahead IMO.

| Whilst the away form has been nothing short of pathetic, I have a bit of sympathy for Wane tonight. We start the game well go 6-0 then we throw a forward pass from dummy half which completely changes the momentum of the game. Then we score to make it 10-16 and Powell throws a shocking pass to Bateman which results in us not touching the ball for the rest of the half. 2 big turning points that he couldn't do anything about.
That being said, some of the players threw the towel in tonight and that is simply unacceptable. That is something Wane can sort out and it will be interesting to see who carries the can for tonight. I thought Bowen, Charnley, Sarginson, Powell, Williams, Patrick, and O Loughlin were woeful. Joel Tomkins had a shocker too but I can cut him slack as he was up against a world class centre in Tonga and Joel quite simply isn't a centre.
4 weeks now for Wane to sort them out or he will be looking at the exit door at the end of the season.

| Up until last week you was looking like being the team to beat. Putting big scores on and not letting many in. Two weeks later it "sack the coach".
Leeds and saints ain't looked hot in recent weeks either. This year is more competitive and anyone can beat anyone.
Anyone with half of brain can see he's no coaching genius but you can't argue with his record and your 3rd in the league!
