yes, Cas managed to raise their game for the first time since the 1980's - well done and I hope you win the cup but until this season Cas have not been consistent. May be they are now bearing the fruits of the franchise system because they have been allowed to grow and develop without the threat of relegation??

One of the things that is bad are fans with your attitude, Castleford have raised their game and that should be applauded rather than whining about their recent success.
I would like to see the league engage in some social media - short ads before youtube clips to push the grit, determination, toughness and team spirit in the game, against football's crying on the floor and get the game out to a global audience, stop relying on Sky to do this. Build some personalities, the Extraordinary theme started to do this but felt like a short burst of advertising rather than something more determined.
Until the game is better marketed and it's strengths pushed it's not going to be what we would love to see, a higher place in the public eye.

| I'm looking forward to next season. I know it's very popular and easy to moan but I think the RFL have made a good decision with the new system which will lead to more competitive games. Ideally I'd like to see the RFL have the courage to raise the cap and allow marquee players as well, regardless of whether the chairmen want it, it would be for the good of the sport IMO.

Attitude? think I said I hope Case go on to win the Cup?? Agree with your points on marketing the game - stuff is done but only League fans know about it.

Moaning aka having an opinion? Can anyone point me in the direction of any information which explains the new structure in detail?

Didn't say it wasn't an opinion, still moaning though...
New structure:
SL reduced to 12, play 23 games (everyone home and away plus magic weekend)
then
top 8 play each other once, before 1 v 4 and 2 v 3 to make the final
bottom 4 play top 4 of the division below to decide who will be in SL the following year

| with the new format we are back to the days when in theory you could play a side 6 times in a season !
3 in league
1 in Magic
1 in Cup
1 in play-offs

the difference being that the probabilities have now increased, as we have 3 league games are guarranteed.
we also have the problem of more games against the same teams, as teh size of the league has been reduced.
its going to be very repetitive
by my rough calculations, the team that wins the league will play :
5 teams a minimum of 3 times
2 teams a minimum of 4 times
that doesnt include the CC and Magic. with a bad cup run, they could play 7 teams all 4 times in a season !
its going to be a bit like the SPL

It's going to be interesting to see how they sell season tickets for 2015. The top 8 playing each other once is 7 games so some clubs get four home fixtures and others three.
It is also just as likely one or more teams will be assured of a top four slot as it is now before the end of the league season so you will still see coaches resting players and some of these fixtures will be meaningless.
Likewise if the 8th placed side has no chance of reaching the top 4 and this is easily a possible scenario, in fact I think it will be quite a likely one, what is the point to them of these 7 games?
The race to get into the top 8 may make the first 23 games more competitive early on but once things settle down I don't think it will continue and the top 8 will be seen a protracted play off about as attractive as the early rounds of the current play offs.

Have RFL officially said how this is going to work yet? I have read in the past all clubs will start on zero points and at the end of 7 games 4th v 5th will play off in a "million pound game". I have not seen anything official though.

Top and 3rd tiers points rollover, middle tier points reset. Top 3 of middle tier qualify for following year's SL along with winner of 4th v 5th playoff.
I actually think it will be a lot better. My only issue with it is keeping the Magic weekend as an extra game.
Also, apparently Leeds are selling season tickets that count for all home games pre and post split, hopefully us and all the other teams follow suit.

| how to turn a simple game into one where you need a degree in brain surgery to understand it. Just watched Brisbane v Warriors in a tight exciting game where every player gave their all in front of over 37,000 - bring on playin Fev (or who ever it may be from the lower leagues) 5 times a year in front of 2000. I suppose that is progress...

| Next season will be a lot more exciting. The new restructure will bring a higher percentage of competitive games. I know that Rugby fans seem to have a tendency to be negative about everything but the RFL do deserve credit for this as it will no doubt improve the competition(s).
