| Quote: jonh "My only slight doubt about Wane that he could be a bit too "Wigan" in his selection policy due to the passion he has for the club.
To be fair though he seems the best option. It is not a full time position, add to this the wealth if back room staff we have I feel we could comfortably accommodate him in both roles.'"
McNamara has picked Mossop, McIlorum and Farrell, all questionable choices, certainly nowhere near the international class of Tomkins, O'L and Charnley. The fact that Wigan did the double with, IMO, a squad lacking the depth of quality of your competitors has to be down to coaching, you are the only team who seems able to consistently attack with pace & accuracy, where everyone recognises the pattern but always struggles to contain it. Whether the attack is down to Wane or Harris, I don't know. Looking at Wales performances I would have to say it must be Wane. I don't think we can sustain a full time top quality coach so no complaints from me if Wane was involved part time. However if he picked Goulding at centre, with some of the competition, I would change my opinion immediately. A decent SL centre but has less qualifications than the original 3 who I questioned for international selection.

My selfish answer would be no I would want him to stay with us, but if he were asked to do it to be a part-time head coach of two, with full control of selection, then yes I could see it working for the good of the country. On the fear of him being too Wigan centric with selection of players, I would have no concerns over that one, because I think one of his main strengths is that the goal is the main driver of his ambitions, not favouritism.

| Wane for England! I can just see the Red Vee board now, my goodness can you imagine the comments on there, they've not half given Micky Mac some stick (now Hocks gone they have to have another fall guy) sorry Shaun I'd sooner you stay at Wigan and get us another double.

Farrell has the best stats for any second row player in Super League but the majority would have Westwood before him for exactly the same reasons the likes of Conroy and myself would have McIlorum starting tomorrow.

Part Time I do think he might well do it. If the GB gig came up then he and Harris would be an almost shoe in.
Wane's 24 man England squad, based on 2013 form.
Tomkins,
Charnley, Goulding, Watkins, Hall,
Widdop, Brough,
Graham, Roby, G Burgess,
S Burgess, Westwood,
O'Loughlin.
Then - Hardaker, Ratchford, Smith, Mossop, McIlorum, Hill, Crabtree,
Ferres, Farrell, Ablett, Kirmond.
I've put Goulding in there and moved Watkins to left centre as the club partnerships could work well.
No Sinfield or Chase but Widdop and Brough with Ratchford and Smith in the squad due to their form. Hardaker who can cover full back and centre.
I went for the form forwards. Wane wouldn't select Hock.'"
Brough is Scottish! HTH.

And the Hock issue wouldn't have arisen because he wouldn't be there to start off with.

| I don't who takes the job on next as long as McBanana is given the plank after this.
I'd hazard a guess that any of the coaches at Wigan would do a better job than that idiot.

I totally agree. But it begs the question why wasn't he chosen Coach of the Year. Here you have a man who coached a team that was written off at the start of the season but went on to do the double and he is passed over for the honour. Of all the crazy decisions ( and there have been many ) this surely ranks as the worst.

To be fair, the coach of the year decision was made BEFORE the Grand Final.

Which is another daft decision just like choosing the Lance Todd winner with about 20 minutes to go Why? The match isn't over so how can anyone judge fairly who made the best contribution to the game. The season isn't over and the main match of the season still to play so how can you fairly judge who was the best coach. Why does the Lance Todd winner have to be announced during the match and why do we have to have the awards dinner before the season is over. Only in Rugby League do you get such craziness.
It's akin to giving a boxer a points decision with a round still to go.

But he opted to play for a rival country so I would never consider him for England. GB yes but not England. I would rather have Rangi Chase at least he wants to play for England...

I would have both Farrell and McIllorum in today.
The England job is not a full time position. I am sure he could comfortably take it on.
In terms people discussing Goulding and his selection, please also remember Jack Reed, if fit he is our number 1 centre, do that leaves Watkins, Cudjo and Goulding, and to be fair to the former 2 of that 3 both have gone well so far this tournament.
