| Quote: Grimmy "I wasn't convinced with him last year. He failed to win our big games and all of our close games bar Hull KR away. He also only seemed to be interested in developing forwards. This season he seems to be putting a lot of that right. I'd like to see us turn over Warrington or get to a final to really convince me though. Also, as already said, no need to slate Gelling in the press like that, do it behind closed doors Shaun!'"
was the good Friday win at st Helens not a big game?

| In the circumstances I think Shaun Wane is doing pretty well.
It is difficult for an unproven coach especially an English coach, to get taken seriously at a big club. There is always an attitude amongst the supporters of "we should be better than giving an unknown a job". The only one that really did it was Brian Noble - and that because he won SL in his first season to get credibility.
I think Wane deserves a lot of credit, I would not say he has had the strongest squad in SL since he's been here, but he has topped the league in his first season and on track to top it again.

| Jury is still out. Results are going well but who have we beaten? Lost to Hudds, lost to Leeds drew with Wire. Beat a broke Saints team which is a shadow of it's former self.
Hammering poor teams isn't much, lets see what happens at the business end of the season.
To boot he has had his issues with players including;
Matty Russell
Gaz Hock
Brett Finch
Eric

I wouldn't describe Saints, Leeds & Catalans as poor. Wire is the only club Wane hasn't hammered.
Wane is a victim of the awful playoff structure where league games and consistency don't matter. Reduce the playoffs to a top 4 and suddenly the league games matter and he is appreciated.

on the flipside to the first part.. this is just my opinion but I wouldn't read too much into that personally, I think how superleague is this season on the day any of the top 6 are capable of beating each other: we lost to hudds who turned over saints but lost away to wire then won at leeds, again we beat a poor saints team who turned over wire away. weather that's a good thing or not depends, but its just the current state of our league I think.
I do agree with you though we need to get it right come the end of the season.

| I put money on him being the first coach sacked in SL.
I stand corrected, enormous amount of respect for the way he's used the young British players.

Matty Russell - Not good enough.
Gaz Hock - Numbskull.
Brett Finch - Dis-interested once confirmed leaving.
Eric - Overweight and poor attitude.

| I think anybody who imagines that any coach "gets on" with every player, is living in cloud cuckoo land..

agreed. its no different to any work place. there are always people in a company who you dont like, but you learn to treat them with respect and professionalism. as a manager, i would rather have a working for me who was good at his job than a really nice bloke who was useless.

| What you have to ask yourself is, If we did get rid who would you realistically replace him with?

That is an old fashioned and outdated approach. Coaches have to be almost a physcologist these days and Wane has alot to learn in that department IMO.
It's his job to get the best out of players and not look like a coach form the 70's. He doesn't have the luxery to speak his mind if it undermines players confidence and the critisism of Gelling was crass. There was plenty of poor play v Wakefield's 12 men including the shoddy defense down the middle that led to two tries so to say that about Gelling given what else happened in that game was out of order IMO. Just no need for it.

| As an outsider looking in, i'd say the jury is still out. Wane has the team chuntering along well week in week out but I feel wigan are almost in danger of becoming a 'flat track bully' team, once that rolls over mid table teams with ease but then loses the big close games. There are some teams that seem to play, for example, like their lives depend on it against leeds, but then bend over for wigan, who are more than good enough to take full ruthless advantage. When a team is regular putting 50 and 60 points on other teams, it's easy to look at them and think 'they're the dogs bollox', but sometimes it pays to look deeper.
So the real judgement of wane will come at seasons end. If wigan haven't at least made one major final (preferably the grand final), he has failed.

Again we all knew Madge didn't get on with Feka but I can't remember him going into detail like Wane does. I also remember Madge had issues with Liam Farrell and his physicality in the tackle.
Time and place.'"
How did we know any of this if the coach kept everything in house?
