Ignore some of the nutters over on the Saints board - Potter is doing an excellent job in the circumstances and I for one am gutted he's off.'"
What's the point of getting to a Grand Final ant not winning it? It's the same as us as those who said Noble didn't do well for us, considering we got to 4 semi finals in both competitions in the time he was here, compared to what we was when he took over that in itself should be considered as an achievement but to others it isn't good enough, the same goes for Potter as it seems.

Are you saying that the losing coach in a Grand Final is always a failure?

Potter's remit is wildly different from Noble's at Wigan. Potter's main job is to overhaul a succesful, ageing squad whilst remaining competitive - and he is doing very well in that regard.

It seems to be that when a Wigan player or coach reaches a final & doesn't win it is deemed a Failure by Sinteliners, When a Saints Coach or player does, it isn't a failure?
Noble's remit was to overturn a vastly under performing club, make them competitive again and oversee the development of the Jumior set up & Wigan.
Did he do that?

Exactly Jukes, many Saints fans expected to be winning trophies when Potter took over after he did a good job with where he got the Dragons. FTV might be in the minority but there was plenty of Saints fans who expected he'd carry on where Anderson left and he has simply failed as a coach at St Helens.

Yes he did. Noble was, however, at Wigan for much of the 2006 season then the whole 2007, 2008 and 2009 seasons. His remit changed over that time and by the end of his tenure was nothing like what you outline above - it was to win trophies.
Potter has had a season and a half and in that time has reached the grand final and blooded lots of promising young players. We sit 2 points off the top of the table despite a fairly ropey time with injuries this year and we're in some good form. It looks like Potter will not get the opportunity to build upon what he is doing at the moment.
Noble had that opportunity and made little of it. That is the difference.

| He'll be gone in weeks - announcing you are leaving at the end of the season seldom turns out well.
Remember Stuart Raper in 2003.

i wouldn't have thought Saints are in a financial position TO pay him up and appoint someone else. They need every penny for their new stadium.

That crossed my mind too. Plus, with Raper there was the Dave Whelan factor.
If memory serves, Whelan was interfering in team matters and going over Raper's head. There had obviousbly been a complete breakdown of trust, because wasn't it felt that Raper then jumped before he was pushed (and was then pushed as well)?
I don't get the impression that McManus is as much a blunt instrument as Whelan (not with Saints one week away from a big cup tie).

23997_1287161421.jpg
Great game of rugby league. Fantastic atmosphere, Wigan were breathtaking and dominant in all areas for the first 25 minutes, coupled with us making alot of dumb mistakes, then fortunately they brought McIlorum on which helped us back into the game. I thought some of the tries we scored to get us within two we're out of this world stuff. Towards the end we had to force it a little and we had a few things go wrong, i.e Monas kick on the first for King and Solomona going off who was causing havoc. Wigan were clinical in their eventual execution of us. Proud of Wire today and gave us a little glimpse to the future. Silverwood was awful as per, but I expect no less. Tomkins is a world class player and by far the best english player in SL. Wigan are a champion side and would be a worthy winner of taking our title as challenge cup. Good luck over the next month and a bit.
:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_23997.jpg |
