Yes that's correct, his coaching record in Queensland cup was outstanding. We may well benefit from having him for a couple of years before he gets an NRL job and he is more than used to UK life. However, I really do like the sound of Flanagan, he is a top notch coach!

Could be a good outside shout.

Flanagan has now been implicated in Cronulla's salary cap breach. Not an ideal candidate for a job at Wigan really.

Surly he's innocent until proven guilty and even then his punishment is to be banned from the NRL and not the global game?
Is cheating the cap worse than say what ZH did or any of the other indiscretions we've seen over the years from players?
It's simply rectified anyway by saying he'd have zero involvement in contract negotiations - funnily enough if you read his comments in the press over the weekend he's said he didn't anyway.

3076_1671446335.jpg SAINTS THE ORIGINAL AND PERENNIAL CHEATS
For sale full Saints kit (circa 1989). Shirts in pristine condition, but shorts badly soiled.
For 27 - 0 you get a trophy
For 75 - 0 you get sod all.
Wigan had eight in a row
Saints have five in a row:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_3076.jpg |

He was my first choice for this year. It all depends on what Lam wants to do IMO, he probably deserves a chance to get things sorted his way.

More a tongue in cheek comment in relation to our recent salary cap issue and past indiscretions.

| I think Lam needs to be given the job. He has come in here with his hands tied and i very much doubt was given much in the way of bringing players in but i am led to believe that he took the job on the proviso that he could bring 2 NRL players over. Don't know how much truth is in that. Forget Edwards. Flanagan, top quality for sure but i think we have had more than our fair share of bad press and controversy over the last few years. We need a clean slate. Demetriou is a very good shout./ He was very highly rated even before he went back to Oz but if Lam wants it i would give it to him. Let him get some stability and then at least the players know they can't mess him around thinking he will be gone after a season. He has NRL experience, will have contacts, knows the club. All the ingredients are there, we just need to give him the tools to get the pie put together.

If he brings his physicians case and syringes with him he can bulk up our players too, two birds one stone...

| Unless Lenagan sells up I cannot see it but Shaun Wane would be my number one choice. His stock can only have risen this year when you think what he dragged out of some of these players who are now struggling.
People talk about entertainment value but he can only play the cards he’s dealt. In his last couple of years it was tough, grinding rugby but injuries were biting and we didn’t have some attacking weapons of last years. when he had an unplayable Tomkins and Hock rampaging in 2012, it was some of the most entertaining rugby I’ve seen a Wigan team play.

| Shaun Wane is an absolute no no. As good as he was for us, a true Wigan legend imo we should be going forwards not backwards.
I’d be happy for Lam to get a shot with the stability of a long term contact but I suspect he wants to go back home.
Flanagan would be brilliant though I can’t see IL forking out for him, those blaming him for SC issues, surely that’s the BOD not the head coach.
My personal choice would be Demetriou, now 42 a good age and has served a long apprenticeship. A lot of good things have been said about his coaching ability, he also knows the English game.

| I don’t see how going to a guy who in seven seasons in charge got to five Grand Finals (winning three), two challenge cup finals (winning one) and two world club challenge appearances (winning one) can be seen as a big no no and going backwards. Yes physically it’s a step back to the last coach but his CV is one which licks people like Lam, Flanagan, Deacon, Ward or whoever else has been mentioned.
It won’t happen under Lenagan but I’d love to be wrong. If we had some proper investment in the team and he came back and we handed him attacking talent like Wire have provided for Steve Price (Austin, Widdop etc) then he’d win and win well IMO.

| If Flanagan is willing to come over for 2 or 3 years I would have him in a heartbeat, excellent coach able to get the maximum out of what was perceived to a Cronulla side that nobody in the NRL fancied to go anywhere near the Grand Final.
He may be just what we need to shake the squad up in a similar way Madge did with Nobles leftovers plus one or two Aussie imports.
I don't know the ins and outs of the salary cap debacle at the Sharks but surely it is as much the admistrators responsibility to govern the cap as the coach, I feel he has been hung out to dry by the club and the NRL.

Warrington led 16-2 in Saturday's Grand Final, but their joy was short-lived as Wigan roared back to win the Super League title and extend the Wire's 58-year wait to be champions:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_10174.png |

| If Lam turns our season around then he's the obvious choice if he wants to stay. However, if he has a good season but isn't interested, I'll prepare for the inevitable response but...John Winder? It does depend on whether that's actually a role he's interested in and whether the club believe he's got the right qualities (it's pretty hard for fans to know those details) but he'll have more than served his apprenticeship as an assistant coach, under two different styles of coach. And sometimes continuity is good for a club.
We could go for Barrett but he's got a poor reputation as a head coach. Every time there's a need to bring in a new coach the fans start suggesting big names, past legends, current players with limited coaching experience (the most ridiculous suggestions of them all), whoever the 'new Michael Maguire' might be. But just look at some of the names being suggested within Super League - Chris Chester, Ian Watson. Coaches who got the job because the head coach moved on and they were the next in line. Salford were very tentative about giving Watson the job but he's done well with them. Big name coaches may have some pulling power regarding players but generally it's the club and money that matter most. Maguire managed to bring in 3 Storm players but that was just fortunate.
We also shouldn't forget that Shaun Wane wasn't a big name coach either. He was simply next in line and had worked under a couple of different coaches with different ideas and developed his own.
However, I think ultimately who becomes coach isn't the most important thing. The best team is still going to have the best chance of winning. Recruit the best players and you could probably achieve some success with only a half decent coach. The most important person at the club is Kris Radlinski, as he seems to be the one most involved in recruitment, as well as performance.

20333_1393344959.gif Current thoughts - Mago out or get running up them plantations, get fit or get rid.
Maybe a back up halfback, someone with a bit of experience on a short term deal.
Big tall strong running second rower, like a McMeekin or Sironen type back rower.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_20333.gif |

| Daryl Powell for me would be first choice followed by Chris Chester.
