Anybody who thinks Carmont and Leuluai are average musn't see enough of them to make judgement. We see the same thing with Lockers all the time. Carmont is one of the best centres in the league and Leuluai is one of the best running half-backs around, look at what he did to saints in the GF.

I can see why people would think Hansen was average because he doesn't do all the fancy stuff, same for Coley and McIlorum really.

Goulding is the definition of average.

Like Bilko said though, who cares what players you have as long as you are winning the title?

We proved last week at Hudds that ever without all of our star players we could still do very well in this league with our 'average' players.

Batesy is also right, with the SC you can't have a team full of world class players unless you buy a couple of gems from Aus and every single young player you bring through turns out to be amazing. We won the title last year because people like Hansen, Coley, McIlorum and Goulding in particular, all did their job to a high standard.

Wigan's players are all average. Actually can we just agree that all Wigan's players are below average? It much easier to gloat when Wigan win games at the expense of the teams full of world beaters.

Well regardless of the petty arguing that may well ensue I genuinely would be loathed to swap Andy Coley for any other Prop in the league if we are looking purely at performances not taking into account age etc. How he does not get an England call up is beyond me.

He pretty much took on and really hurt the St George defence on his own in the WCC. Excellent player in everything he does, very strong carry and his defence is technically spot on but also very hurtful.

I'd say all of those ARE average aside from maybe Carmont.

IMO Grix, Carvell, Anderson, Myler, Clarke, Higham, Mitchell, Blythe and Evans (for now) are 'average' but you need these types of players to win leagues, it's the squad that matters.

If you think Leuluai is average then baring 2 players Wire has a fully average team.

Hansen is one of the first names down on Madges team sheet. That should tell you a lot.

I can see why, he never stops working! And rarely makes a mistake.

Unlike Noble who didnt think as much of him as Madge does... and i know H wasnt having a happy time at the club being on the bench regularly under Brian but he's the happiest player in the world now and we are reaping the benefit of that.

This thread is sort of pointless.

Especially with SOME Wire fans. I remember when Morley went over to Australia and there were Wire fans saying "why have they taken him hes average at best" etc etc.

Now he's a Wire player they think he's the best thing since sliced bread (and no I'm not saying he's rubbish I'd have him in the Wigan team even if he is a dirty get)

It just says to me that Wire will always see a player as average if he isn't playing for them.

Some Wire fans tell me that Sam is average because "all he does is duck and dive then run through the line"

I doubt you'll find many wire fans who found Morley average when he was down under, and as for dirty get? Since he became captain he's been very well disciplined with the majority of his big hits all perfectly legal and within the rules.

Carmont average? He looked as good as the average St George back when we played them, so if that's average then George will do for me.

What a signing he's been. When fully fit like he was against St George he is a very good player indeed. He's the opposite of a Vaealiki. George arrived with no reputation and has massively outperformed. He's been one of the best overseas signings made by any SL club in recent years. I'm confident he will do a great job for us tonight.

Did I really read a suggestion Leuluai is average? Ridiculous isn't even the word. He regularly plays for New Zealand and therefore must, by definition, be world class.

You have to bear in mind that there has been a dearth of even average players playing for the "Wolfs" in recent years.
