Agreed. Love your user name - I'm guessing you aren't a fan of the MoS awards process either!

I think though that last year was an even bigger disgrace than the Barrett/Roby debacle. When they robbed Trent at least they had the decency to overlook him in favour of a player who was also world class, even if not up to Trent's standard that season. When they picked Chase over Tomkins on the other hand... icon_rolleyes.gif icon_evil.gif

The players picked Chase.

To me that makes it worse. That means that the players, who should know a good player when they see one better than anyone else, clearly dont know enough. Either that or they are a very jealous bunch.

Just shows the fickleness of some players who voted for him. It's alot easier to stand out when playing for Castlford (no offence to their club) than if he played for Wigan or Wire etc

Quote: Callum_Featherstone "There are three mandatory insurance policies in place covering Public Liability, Personal Accident and Death by Natural Causes.

However it is recommended that players and clubs consider whether additional cover is appropriate for their own personal circumstances.

I'm just not sure, and after looking into this matter, I'm slightly concerned how safe semi professional players are. This incident doesn't happen week in week out, the game has cracked down on dangerous tackles, like chicken wing.

Tangi may have some sort of claim in place. The fans are concerned that if he doesn't have evidence of earnings through playing rugby league for Featherstone his visa may be brought into question

I would be seeking the services of a 'no win no fee' injury at work type lawyer to seek compensation from Cas, as it was one of their employees that caused his workplace injury.
It would be good exposure for these type of parasites and may get him an out of court settlement.

2007 "the system is a disgrace, the players should pick man of steel"

2011 "the system is a disgrace, the players aren't capable of picking the man of steel"

anyway, back on topic - is there any recourse for Ropati to sue Chase, especially as his actions have led to a direct loss of earnings for Ropati.

The MoS judging is an embarrassment to the sport. This sort of incompetence/petty jealousy is very unhelpful to RL's image and its attempts to be taken seriously as a significant sport in this country.

I'm sure the club will seek legal advise on the matter. Can't think of any previous incidents, where a player has seeked compensation, against the individual who caused it. Hopefully it won't come to that. It's a contact sport, we want tackles to be legal of course, but we'd hate our players to refrain from big hits, to avoid the risk of potential court action.

Dunno about the pitch, but lots of standing water on the playing field and green in Ackworth, 1 1/2 miles away.

Re: getting a no win no fee solicitor in.

I'm just finishing my law degree now so I can maybe give a bit more information on this.

Proving a tort of offences against the person in a professional sporting context is notoriously difficult. Lawyers and academics have been arguing for years over whether or not injuries like this constitute a normal and acceptable risk through playing the game (which has normally been seen as the threshold).

A friend of mine is currently writing a dissertation on the subject (with a particular focus on rugby) and there's a really large amount of confusion over it. Its worth going to seek advice but the standard set will be hard to reach particularly due to the fact rugby is a physical game and injuries like this might been as an acceptable risk which does not give rise to liability.

A good financial adviser would have recommended something like rlthisrl.
