| Always said Gelling had lots of potential. Great to see him starting to fulfil that potential. He's now an important player for us but I still think there is room for improvement. He has the oppotunity to become one of the top players in SL and let's hope he continues his development.

| I also wonder about that obstruction, he probably should have passed but the Warrington player (who's name escapes me at the moment) was in the process of tacking the obstructing player around the legs etc. That's not the actions of an obstructed player, it's the actions of somebody making a tackle and a good bit of work to get the obstruction.

| he was class last night, toook the ball out of defence hard, tackled hard and got Charnley away as well.
that try will have to go down as one of the best never given.
it was obstruction, but MM (I think) was in the process of tackiling our payer that Gelling ran round.
Kevin Iro said he was good, who honestly thought he would be wrong???

| If Gelling keeps improving at this rate he could very well be the best centre in SL next year.

couldn't agree more...seems the new way to get an obstruction call is to tackle someone off the ball

I'm a fan of Gelling but I think you're getting way ahead of yourself there.

Agreed. I'd happily award him most improved player but he has a long way to go before he is challenging for best centre in SL. His decision making needs working on, he also comes up with too many errors. Hopefully experience will go a long way to rectifying these problems.

| The overall quality of centres in superleague is scarily low. He's got all the tools to challenge the best IMO (Watkins).

The standard of centres in SL is shocking. I don't even think Watkins is the world-beater he's often made out to be, more best of a bad bunch. I was reading through one of the "What would your England team be" threads on the VT and centre is the position that sticks out as very weak. Shenton's had a good season but I don't think he's international quality and has never performed at the highest level. Cudjoe and Atkins are both decent but again not top class. We seem to go through phases with the England side where we have to have one position that has very little depth and it appears it is centre this time around. Even with oversee's players there's only really Moon, Gelling and Pomeroy who are half decent. Jack Reed's injured now and I'd be tempted to use Hardaker in the centres tbh.
From a Wigan POV, in 2010 we had a centre partnership of Gleeson and Carmont. Gelling and Sarginson isn't quite the same I'm afraid.

That's always been my concern but I think he's turned a corner this past month or two. His decision making has improved ten fold and combined with his physical attributes it's very promising.

Watkins always looks like he's on one leg to me which seems to limit him a bit. When he's fully fit he can be a very good centre but still probably not at the standard that should make him the stand out centre in the division.
Shenton is very Darrell Goulding like in that he's a decent superleague centre who has the odd good season but it's a sign of our weakness at centre that he'll probably be selected for the dream team and the England tour.

| I'm with Warriorcraig. Hardaker must play in the centre for me.

| Gelling has been a real threat to opposition teams for some while now.
Keep improving at this rate and he'll be one of the best centres in SL.
Him and Charnley could be something special come 2015.
