Because you’ve scored a try to earn the right to try for the kick, which is why a try is called a try. But 2 points from a drop goal no, there’s nothing wrong with the system we have

Because a conversion doesn't take any entertainment away from the game. They aren't choosing to take a conversion instead of attempting to score a try. Bringing in a rule that may encourage teams to kick drop goals rather than score tries has the potential to take away from the entertainment IMO.

| Brilliant. There's already nothing worse than 2 teams spending the last 10 mins of a drab game trying and failing miserably to kick drop goals. It'll happen even more now.
Some of the attempts - for professional sportsmen - really are terrible.

Anyone else think that with this rule, we would have got a load of long range drop goal attempts throughout the second half instead of the classic we did get?

Long range attempts? Absolutely none.

You could argue that the GF would have been more open to taking risks if a team was loosing by a 2 point dropped goal rather than a tight 5 then a kick on the 6th aimlessly downfield or into the corner as most matches are.
Not saying I'm in favour of the change but is worth considering
Kicking in general in rugby league is pretty appalling for a professional sport. Maybe 2 points for a drop might improve the quality of drop kicks and kicking in general.
For me kicking is an integral part of the game that isn't given the attention it should be all teams. I always laugh when Sam Tomkins got some kicking coaching a few years back. If he had more than 2 sessions I'll show my Harris at the top of King Street.
For s sport that goes on about territorial possession the lack of a single player in the comp who can make 30 yards from a penalty kick on a consistent basis is totally laughable.

Shouldn't we reduce penalty kicks to one point then? Why 2 points for a penalty kick?

Why? Both teams took the two points on offer whenever the had a vaguely kickable penalty. I'm struggling to believe they wouldn't therefore go for a two point drop goal to level the game with this rule. We know Powell can kick them from that range.

The penalty is a punishment for an infringement of the rules, You either loose ground or concede points when you break the rules. The attacking team also can’t control where on the field they get one, in the same way that you try and take the ball nearer the posts when you score. The risk of a 2 point drop goal is we turn in RU where kicking becomes the norm. Teams drive down the middle and bang a drop goal over, get the ball back and repeat
The scoring is fine as it is.

| I dont see what problem the 2 point DG is solving. Like Grimmy says it potential encourages more negative play.
I can't see it being used much though. I would be surprised. seems a bit like the 20/40 .

Why not yellow card every third offence for offside irrespective who commit's it or when?
Surely this would be better than 2 points for penalty that may not be converted?
There is as much kicking in RL as there is in RU. Union are just better at it.
You'd never never get a RL game where you see 5 drives and an aimless kick would repeated from the 1st minute until the 80th?
There aren't any players in SL who can drop goals with any certainty- no one has a record of doing this.

Do you mean the penalties in the 40th minute to take the lead, the penalty to make the game all square and the penalty in the 79th minute in an attempt to win the game? They weren't just kickable they were major turning points of the game.
No one in SL can drop goals with any regularity. No one in SL can kick a ball a decent length or accuracy with consistency. Kicking is a lost skill. It isn't prized by any player or coach. If it was every team would have at least one and preferably two.
Powell???? Sorry Grimmy you've lost me there. Sneyd is the only player with any sort of consistency in converting drop goals and a few of those have been golden point conversions so even he doesn't drop goals with regularity in normal game time.
