Can't believe The Torch has now got decking and umbrellas etc.
It's a far cry from the days when there'd always be some Wiganers up on the roof leading the chanting.
Not that I condone it, obviously

| Rather than an oyster card, keep in mind that you can buy tube travelcards with your train tickets, or from most UK mainline stations, to avoid queues when you get to That London. That's what I do when I go down for work.
Should probably get an oyster card really, but I haven't got round to it.
For pubs round Wembley, if you're anywhere near the ground, prepare to spend time with your face in people's armpits or people's faces in your armpits, depending on your height. The stadium's fantastic, but for pre and post match beveraging Wembley is a massive disappointment once you've been used to Cardiff.

| I once travelled using a Travelcard that was bought with a train ticket. I was told that it can only be used on Underground services. This went alongside not working in the ticket barriers at Waterloo (the attendant let me through) and having to follow someone through when I got to Twickenham.

I've only ever bought them with the intention of using them on the tube.
In my experience, ones bought through the company (via the trainline's business service I believe) tend to work in the barriers, but ones bough from Virgin trains tend not to. Meh.

London travel cards work with London Tube / DLR and London overground services. They do not work on Network rail services unless specified .
i.e I have bought an off peak travel card which is combined with Gatwick Airport which also allows return travel between Victoria Station and Gatwick airport.
An off peak day card (zones 1 - 6 ) is £8 the card i have purchased was £14.20 .See the London overground map for services you can use. Regards , EW

I've used Transport for London Day Travelcards to get to Twickenham by train for Quins matches and on many other rail journeys within the London zones - you can check the few restrictions by placing your cursor on 'Travelcards' in the grid here:
www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/14416.aspx
I suspect the cards issued by train companies may well be problematic at barriers, which removes an element of ease in using them. Oyster Cards can now be used on most trains within London, ie rail as well as Tube - the details are here if you need to check:

| EW is partially right I guess. Travelling from Maidstone on Southeastern, the travelcard extension allows travel Zone 1-6, tubes buses and overground trains. Barriers always open when travelling on South West/Southern, without fail. East Midlands travel card extension allowed tubes only (apparently).
