Watched the Aus v New Zealand game, first penalty was late in the second half, the game flowed and was a cracking advert for RL.
Perhaps players are a little more disciplined down under, but referees dont let players milk penalties all the time. Perhaps we need 2 refs, one with experience to mentor younger ones, just as long as one isn't Chlds, I'll be happy

Wasn't Silverwood the ref in that game?

Been saying this for a while after watching the NRL games on Premier Sports. Think it works better with the 2 refs system really but just by allowing an extra second at the PTB allows the game to flow much better. Obviously if its scrappy and players falling over and getting in the way or having a deliberate second effort to slow the play down then its a penalty but often the refs here listen to the crowd shouting and blow up too soon, resulting in a very stop-start game which isnt what RL should be about. Silverwood reffed the Aus/NZ game excellently last week I thought.

And we do need to revert to 2 refs as well imo, sooner rather than later, even if it means recruiting from Oz if there aren't enough suitable candidates over here. Having the game played under different rules between leagues is a joke, as is only having video refs at televised games, but a lack of money and good enough referees has meant this in another facet of the game we cant compete with the southern hemisphere.

I don't think the players were any more disciplined, I think Silverwood just ignored a lot of minor offences that usually get penalised over here - whether he'd been told to do that or did it on his own initiative, I don't know.

Silverwood generally does that anyway. He let plenty go on Good Friday and the game was better for it

Silverwood was the ref and Phil Gould commented on him not blowing for penalties. I think it was the second half before he did blow for one. Gould was then slagged off "you would complain if Silverwood blew for too many penalties ".

Was the game better beacuse the players were used to having better discipline under the two ref system or did the players get away with more because they had the one ref?

Its like Russian roulette with this guy now. Every week fans up and down super league are praying for anybody but him

They will have a couple of extra reserve refs too!
